@RealAlbanianPat Because he is personally very popular. In 24, Labour got 40% in that seat. Burnham got 60% in the mayor election in the region. He is very popular and is trying to prove he can win an uphill battle

@Thelma_DWalker I think its a different story. Labour were defending in GD, the greens weren't. Plus labour had a (admittedly small) change of winning it. The greens really don't have a shot. And if burnham loses by like 1% with the greens on 10%. Then it would be pretty easy to blame them

I will accept the democratic decision of the Green Party as to whether or not we fight
to win in Makerfield, but I do remember very well how vile Labour were during the Gorton and Denton by election, when they could have stepped back and given the Greens a clear run.

The people of Makerfield deserve a committed local MP.
Instead, they are forced to be extras in the Labour Party’s psychodrama.
Burnham does not care whether it is Gorton and Denton, Makerfield or Bootle. He is just desperate to get back to Westminster.
The people of Makerfield deserve better than being reduced to a chapter in Labour’s civil war.

@LilithRStacey It doesn’t look like anything is gonna stop them from paying their higher ups the maximum amount. And then just giving them assets and stock. I guess if you include gained assets as income maybe. But then would buying a house count as income?

I love the idea of the pay ratio (kinda) but what’s stopping these companies paying the CEO’s benefits and stocks etc instead of a wage
Also if their tax residence isn’t in the UK, will we have the jurisdiction to enforce this?

@WadeBox Im personally most interested in the more debate sided content. It's something you very rarely get to see from lots of creators which is a detailed look into their thoughts on things. Not just the serious ones but even the silly ones work to humanise creators nicely

The greens only called them "leaders" cos uk is so weird about this stuff but he's just a speaker on behalf of the party. He's also a member with his own rights to his own views with a democratic system. He doesn't run the party

But if ur gonna run a party. It seems a bit weird to openly say you disagree with your members. Its not a flip flop but its strange imo

And looks/sounds confusing especially to voters who are less aware of how the greens are might be less willing already. i think will be the greens problem will be, they could get as many seats in urban areas. But will hit a cap in rural areas

How is this a flip flop from Zack? First he states Green policy and then he states his own opinion. That’s exactly what he is required to do. Starmerites again failing to comprehend a democratically controlled party.

But disagreeing with a few policies is fine, you just can't present your opinion as party policy. Which is exactly what Polanski did here. It's honesty, not flip-flopping.

@cezthesocialist @owen9305 Im not saying that as a unique criticism of Zack. Politicians never 100% match with their party. But if a manifesto comes out or an official position exists for a party. If the top of the party doesn't agree with it. Im not sure how much i would trust them to actually do it

First of all, every leader openly disagrees with their members, especially parties that lack democracy. But why would you expect them to agree with every policy? They aren’t elected simply to be a spokesperson but to push the Party in a new direction. It’s completely fine for them to use their position to advocate for new policies, especially if they align with what they said to get elected. Aside from being the leader, they are still a member who can and should engage with Party democracy.

@owen9305 As I just explained in the tweet that you’re replying to, he first states Green Party policy and then states his own opinion, which are two separate things. I know, difficult to comprehend the policy of the party being ultimately decided by members when you lot get no say.

The Senedd has the most extreme generational divide in the country. 70% of under 50s intend to vote for left-wing parties, compared to just 35% of over 50s. And even Labour now leans older after its shift to the right, with just 6% of under 50s intending to vote for them.

@brownliberite There used to be an argument about emissions as trams can use power from a grid. But they lack the operational freedom busses have. If they wanna avoid traffic they'd need to have their own rail on a seperate lane (like a bus lane could be). So more like very light rail then
