@GreggC_CC Continuing in Brian Moore’s footsteps. In every game could see multiple penalties for England that the ref missed. In fairness he got more even handed in time. I think LD is the most biased. In fairness Ref & TMO missed a few infringements but moaning on afterwards doesn’t help

@ek_rugby I don’t think it was that close unlike Leinster v Toulon. Bordeaux can score from anywhere. I have to say they did get away with a few infringements yesterday but clearly best team.

Bordeaux are Champions Cup finalists again! Bath gave it a proper go, with the final score not reflective of how close the game was for a long time. Bordeaux are just relentless though with all the tools to win back-to-back titles. #UBBvBAT

@derek_fee I knew a policeman back in the day who used to fear a Northern team playing in Croke Park. He feared the reckless driving at speed by northern reg drivers.

I think we in northern Ireland should really consider banning drivers from the Republic of Ireland driving here. They can’t bloody drive. They don’t know how the dual carriage way works. Slip roads etc

Great win for Leinster considering playing with 14 men for most of the game Ioane has been the worst New Zealand signing since Eddie Hekenui. His heart is in Auckland hopefully he's not picked for the final #LEIvTOU

@EdFreeman9 @slatterywill Fair point but why didn’t he grab Drean at the waste and push him into touch or at least try. In fairness injuries & HIAs during the game were big losses (Henshaw, Conan, VdF, Ioane, & O’Brien - all forced subs) lead to Toulon resurgence.

@slatterywill Sam Prendergast playing full back, Keenan on the wing, Ringrose on leg. All this after they had already lost Van Der Flier, Conan and Hennshaw to injury. Sam trying to tackle a winger in a position that's foreign to him. Thank f*ck Will isn't involved in Leinster rugby

Lots of thoughts after watching that Leinster win but two prominent ones 1) They will need to be multiple levels better than that to win the final 2) There is zero indication this season that this Leinster squad can deliver that performance

@SebJohnsonUK @simoncoveney Questionable table. The measure used for Irelands ranking may be skewed by tax revenues. The wealth of a country should reflect assets such as housing stock and infrastructure & not just GDP.

Europe dominates the list of richest countries. The US ranks as 16th while the UK is not even in the top 20. This is a new ranking which measures, not just GDP, but how wealth concretely translates into the daily life of the ordinary citizen. GDP per capita is generally a terrible metric, as it assumes national output is evenly shared across the population.

@SineadOS1 Heard your excellent podcast with DMcW. The malaise not only affects IRE but also the UK (Housing & infrastructure). Your analysis is correct but you should acknowledge the State’s early success with Electricity (Ardnacrusha & other schemes) & public housing schemes in 1920/30’s

The truth about Leo and the @GovIE attitude to rural Ireland and the farming sector - the mask has slipped and no apology can change that . The people of Galway West have the ability to give them an appropriate response by electing Noel@NoelThomas.ie on May 22. Here’s why Leo is so wrong

Well he might. @LeoVaradkar had a neck claiming to be part of the class that pays for agricultural subsidies. As a doctor, he was paid by the State. As a politician he was paid by the State. He has earned significant pension rights at the expense of the State. His entire adult life has been subsidised by the State.

I'll safely say Leo Varadkar will go down in history as the most unpopular and least effective Taoiseach we've had in our 🇮🇪 history . Leo Varadkar epitomises all that is wrong in modern day Ireland . Egotistical, arrogant, devoid of empathy and sadly out of touch. #LeoVaradkar

@NewstalkFM A good question for David McWilliams? In the past there is no doubt tax payers in Dublin funded transfers to rural Ireland. If a group of workers / business owners inconvenience another section of society to highlight their grieviance they must expect some push back.

'I thought it was a shocking intervention.' We asked our listeners on Lunchtime Live what they thought of Leo Varadkar's recent comments on the Path to Power podcast, in which he said that urban workers were 'paying the bills' for the rest of the country. Our callers disagreed with the former Taoiseach, let us know what you though in the comments.

A video of a young Avangard fan named Stepan has gone viral online. During pre-game ice hockey skating, he managed to catch a puck that the players were trying to get for the fans. However, a teenage girl snatched the trophy from the boy. She allegedly claimed Stepan didn't deserve the puck because he didn't have a sign.

The protests in Ireland are not about just fuel! They are about the distance between Ireland on this graph and every other modern and developed economy. Ireland is second wealthiest but gets waaaaay less than any other country for that wealth. By a golden mile. That visual gap in this graph? That’s what people are protesting. It’s a lack of infrastructure and the everyday enshittification of services, the economy, and the additional difficulty of trying to live, relative to peers in any other country. It also highlights why people don’t get uniformly listened to! - because there is no government architecture to engage meaningfully across this huge gap. That gap is a three hour drive to work in traffic, a 14 month wait for an MRI, buses that don’t arrive, trains that don’t exist, schools that have no places for your kids, houses that are unaffordable, pubs that close before midnight, €12 sandwiches, expensive fuel. People feel this gap, even if they can’t explain it precisely. And that builds into resentment, and ultimately protest. Fuel just happened to be the next thing that could be pointed to, today.
