@Challenger_ST @Belly1162 While I totally agree that they shouldn't hinder her progression when she's clearly already strong. However Elite weightlifters all over the world warm up with just the bar. Plus it would be disingenuous to her to not verify her technique and ability when they have no background.

I have a female college athlete who pulls 395 on the trap bar She will go to school, they won’t believe her & still have her warm-up with 25’s on each side of the bar Please stop doing this to our female athletes.

@RUGBY_STR_COACH I get you. With that said I've seen wrestling coaches work footwork and hand placement against a specific offense/defensive technique. They break it down to work on what the athlete is struggling with.

@RUGBY_STR_COACH Exactly. This is why coaches want athletes to perform this element in a controlled setting where they can be corrected before they they do an uncontrolled setting and add variables. They have broken it down to one variable (likely needs work) and are drilling specific technique.

@OCStrengthCoach And effective placement of the feet and distribution of weight is entirely dependent on the nature of resistance being faced. "Good" in one situation is entirely bad for another. You see it all the time in grappling sports, which is why chain wrestling is a thing.

@RUGBY_STR_COACH Base width & foot movement as they laterally move while engaged then the way they push off their inside foot to disengage & step to tackle. Teach the technique here before you move on to a more live and open drill. High level Olympic weightlifters still do light weight tech work.

@RUGBY_STR_COACH Footwork, extension, hip position. The way there body moves when they shed the block. Yes there's a ton of learning that goes on in a drill like this. They are working the technical skill of a specific situation: the reach block. It probably advances to an open more live drill.

@OCStrengthCoach Again.... They've been doing this 15 years. Is there actually a ton of learning going on? The fact they can all do it just fine suggests there is nothing to learn and correction needed. When they mess up on the field it's almost certainly not because they can't hold a position

@KodyAfusia Right?! Its like when they took away the "incidental" 5 yard face mask for grabbing and letting go and made them all 15. De incentivizing anything other than holding onto it.

@fapsid @CoachDanCasey It does not. You can be ineligible by alignment or number. Had a ref say once that everyone is a receiver unless they are ineligible.

The vast majority of HS athletes see HUGE benefits in something as simple as adding 5 lbs weekly to a 5x5 scheme. Coaches get too impatient. If you have an athlete that is advanced, then individualize your programming for him/her. Don't be lazy on top of being impatient.

@fapsid @CoachDanCasey These are extra clarifications of the base rule which I posted. Anyone not allowed to catch a pass goes more than 3 yards downfield blocking or otherwise there should be a penalty. The play posted should have resulted in a penalty.
