Turning 40 next week. Went blonde, cutting down on the sugar (again, keep fallin’ off the wagon), asking God to help me be a more patient Mom, taking deep breathes, recounting the goodness of God on a regular basis, watching birds with my babies in our new yard that is its own little Narnia, finishing up writing my sixth book and love this one the most (Mothering as Worship, Baker Books, 2027), cuddling my babies while they still let me, drinking more coffee than I should, planning to finally read “Boundaries,” finding more and more joy in my local church, taking supplements so my bones don’t turn to dust, trying to stay on top of the laundry for the first time in my life, and holding hands with my husband. #ThisIs40 (almost)

@HeartOTXHeartMD Yes-and inquiry is always best, instead of a ‘paternalistic’ approach of telling. Always. I am ‘young’ & was just TOLD by a physician that should a ‘major’ illness be declared in evaluation, I should choose ‘quality over quantity’ of my days. Truly startling ! #NotDeadYet

@RoryTyer Yes. As the daughter of a former SEC 🏈 coach, I have been startled by the insane number of ‘titles’ & ‘entitlements’ within athletic departments today. I love & believe college sports are a vital part of universities, but the exponential growth in ‘$taff’ is dumbfounding !

this is absolutely not the reason college is more expensive, and is an insanely reductionist reading of how we got here, to the point of being highly deceptive just look up percentage of college salaries that go to various administrative functions and to sports and consider those as a percentage of expense burden to a typical SEC school for instance. gotta start there before even getting into history

Well . . . this happened tonight. My brilliant, spectacular daughter graduated from high school. She graduated with several awards and honors, some terrific acceptances and very fine colleges and a few terrific scholarships. I could not be more proud. Well done, Ruby!

I tend to be an early adopter and I have an open mind about a lot of AI use cases...but for some reason I revolt at the idea of AI songwriting. AI mood music for background in an ad, probably fine. But not actual songwriting.

@OKell38538 @jksmith18 Oh my word, that’s another thing you and I have in common! I once woke up at 6am to find a bat strolling across my bedroom floor. Yeah, nature is amazing, but it can also be terrifying!
