The primary purpose of engaging in any discussion is to achieve & increase mutual understanding of issues through shared perspectives. Avoid trying to 'win' at all costs.

@ChadMhako Chad, you are right. The hustle is a fad and fads, by design, are so short-term in perspective. Therein lies our problem as an economy. You can not run a modern day economy with that kind of hustler approach. Short-termism has been the bane of our economic performance to date.

The street doesn't scale, it diversifies & evolves to the next trend. The street isn't legacy driven, It survives until the next window opens. The street is misunderstood by mainstream. Those on the street understand their hustle is a fad, that's why they don't play the long game
egt@Momentum989

@ChadMhako the street will sooner or later face the struggles of scale. with some of these tuckshop players becoming soo big they need distribution networks or warehouses and some formality to handle their business.

@baba_nyenyedzi True Tinashe, but the big retailers have far larger committed costs and mandatory compliance issues than tuckshops who tend to be nimbler by virtue of their informality.

It’s a wrong reading of the retail sector to believe it’s only the big retailers under strain. Waning demand has affected the tuckshops as well.

@TendaiDara @ChadMhako @RyanKatayi I have to agree. Like the say, the room for improvement is never full and the education system can certainly do better but apportioning all blame entirely to it is just creating an easy way out.

Many people think that Zimbabwe's high unemployment rate is because its universities aren't producing employable graduates. But in reality, these graduates are succeeding globally. The problem is that the skills they bring to our economy are often not properly valued. It's like when raw materials are taken out of the ground and aren't priced as they should be because the extractor lacks processing capacity . It's a bit of a funny situation.

Upon reflection, Zim Learning Institutions are producing globally competitive talent. Can we improve? Yes! @RyanKatayi has a point. We are acing exams set by international boards, fitting into global working environments & practicing with ease. Doesn't that account for something?

Some people ask me why I shout out Zim. Here is one tiny example; Today I went to AFDIS to buy a case of brandy. The security guard at the gate was alarmed b cos my husband usually goes every second Month The guy who takes the payment and order was worried about his health. The dispatcher asked after him, as did the guard who verified the order. He just opted to cook the stew tonight in case of a power outage today. It was all genuine concern for a customer they might see 6 times a year U don't get this anywhere else in Africa. Prove me wrong!

@ChadMhako In the short term, have renowned experienced & practising captains of industry sit on tertiary instituitions management boards for their direct input on curricula formulation & alignment which curricula is demonstrably reviewable every 3-5 years.

Imagine having a future industries directorate, tasked with R&D, solidifying synergies with research institutions and promoting high growth potential sectors including coming up with policies that align. This would amongst other issues curate the startup act & new industries act

@OMandimika @MishMugadza Manicaland is the only province with a district with all 5 ecological regions. Chipinge should be a hub of activity especially in agriculture. Nyanga should be upscaled to be a major tourism hub. An airport is long overdue. PPPs are the way to go in order to unlock value.

@pridekurai @MishMugadza Yes indeed. Another way is to identify the economic clusters & their drivers in the province, then actively push policies that promote them. Resources must not favour just a few areas but be spread out to drive devolution & developmental equity right across.

DID YOU KNOW THAT agro-tourism is a form of tourism that links agricultural production and/or processing with tourism to attract visitors onto a farm or other agricultural business for the purposes of entertaining and educating the visitors on the area of production. Tanganda Tea is one example of the farms that take visitors on such tours. #VisitZimbabwe #ZAS2023
