OSDA is a local non-governmental organization working with communities in Northern Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia. We help people help themselves.

Many people turn on a tap without thinking twice. 💧
But for many women and children in remote parts of Northern Kenya, water still means long walks, heavy containers, and hours spent each day just to meet a basic household need.
Day after day.
At @OSDAFRIK , we are not standing by , we are on the ground working to change that reality. By installing solar-powered boreholes and water infrastructure, we are helping communities access clean, reliable water in a way that is sustainable, durable, and built to serve them for years to come.
Because access to water should not mean exhaustion, lost time, or missed opportunities.

Looking back at a proud moment we recently had in Ires Kinto, Mandera County…
What used to be long, exhausting treks for water under the blazing sun is now a thing of the past. Thanks to Mandera County Government drilling the borehole and @OSDAFRIK equipping it with funding from @EUinKenya via @IOMKenya , we delivered a solar-powered borehole ; clean, reliable and built to last with almost no maintenance.
Still flowing strong:
✅ 50m³ masonry tank
✅ Community water kiosk
✅ Livestock troughs
✅ Secure solar fencing
This durable solution advances 𝗦𝗗𝗚 𝟲 (𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿), 𝗦𝗗𝗚 𝟳 (𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆), supports 𝗦𝗗𝗚 𝟮 (𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿) via healthier livestock and aligns with 𝗦𝗗𝗚 𝟭𝟯 (𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻).
Kids study instead of fetching water. Families thrive. Hope endures. Grateful to our partners for lasting impact.

This week, @OSDAFRIK with the @IOMKenya and the Mandera County Department of Water—carried out vital community engagements across Kutulo and Mandera West.
Our teams assessed borehole sites in Ires Kore, Nyat Alio, and Burduras, all drilled by the county government and now ready for equipping. A fourth site in Kabo (Lafey) follows later this week.
Beginning 27 February 2026, and funded by the SDG @MPTFOffice through @IOMKenya , OSDA will equip all four boreholes with life-changing infrastructure:
✅ Solarization for sustainable power
✅ 50M³ masonry tank for reliable storage
✅ Water kiosk for fair, controlled access
✅ Gender-segregated latrines for dignity and safety
✅ Livestock troughs to support pastoralist livelihoods
✅ Training of community water operators for long-term management
A drilled borehole provides hope.
An equipped borehole transforms an entire community.
This intervention strengthens resilience and brings dignified, equitable water access to thousands facing unprecedented drought across Mandera County.

On Sunday, 15th February 2026, the residents of Ires Kinto celebrated the completion of a transformative water project. We joined the Mandera County Government Department of Water Services, led by CECM Dr. Mohamud Eda, to hand over a newly completed borehole to the community.
The borehole was drilled by the Mandera County Government and equipped by the Organisation for Sustainable Development Africa (OSDA) with funding from the @EUinKenya through the @IOMKenya .
The infrastructure delivered includes:
✅ Solarization of the borehole for sustainable, off-grid energy.
✅ Construction of a 50M³ masonry tank for bulk water storage.
✅ A dedicated water kiosk for community access.
✅ Two livestock water troughs to support healthy livestock.
✅ Fencing to secure the solar system.
Infrastructure alone isn't enough. This week, we will conduct training for the water operator and the management committee to ensure the long-term sustainability of the system. Additionally, a two-door gender-sensitive latrine will be constructed at the water point to promote sanitation and dignity.
Thank you to our donors and partners, @EUinKenya , and @IOMKenya ; your support turns blueprints into flowing water.
Congratulations to the community of Ires Kinto. Access to clean water saves time, saves lives, and builds peace.
