On second read, the Jowett translation is really weak here… both this one and the Cooper one (where rhetoric is translated oratory) have many weaknesses… maybe this is another I should get a Penguin or Oxford translation for.

Socrates, on the flip side of freedom of speech: “POLUS: What! do you mean that I may not use as many words as I please? SOCRATES: Only to think, my friend, that having come on a visit to Athens, the most free-spoken state in Hellas, you when you got there, and you alone,

So it doesn’t swing into arrogance or hubris, a kind of “none of this matters, that thing you like isn’t the real good buddy” which already implies a judgement that something bad has happened. In any event, time to go do something I enjoy, and seem alright at: teaching.

As for in-the-world non-meta skills, more knowledge of dead ends, and a few areas i want to try out. I think I need a day away so I can start a new baseline, and then try to do that unwaveringly, using the layered approach I’ve learned from Shingon and the Platonists

My boss must’ve let someone else know I told him I want to quit and now my coworker and probably soon the whole office will know. Good, I consider it a gift. Now to focus on what comes next.

@BillKristol Buddy you were a democrat 15 years ago. Which is exactly how and why Donald Trump happened. Take your bow. Enjoy the result.

I’m pro-freedom, pro-law and order, pro-limited government, and pro-the Declaration and the Constitution. And so today I’m a Democrat.

If you say you’re pro freedom, but then say I shouldn’t be allowed to say only males can be men, then you’re not pro freedom. If you say you’re pro law and order but say a murderer should be allowed back on the street due to risk of deportation if they happen to be illegal, then you’re not pro law and order. If you say you’re pro limited government but you want democratic socialism and government control/providing of everythigg bc, then you’re not pro limited government. If you say you’re pro constitution but want to change the rules to strip courts, or pack courts because you don’t like that the court (check and balance) stopped your from being allowed to violate the constitution, then you’re not pro constitution Not saying you personally fell this way about these things, just saying in general.

It’s going to get rough out there. Poor gaijin ALTs will need to start stockpiling fish and going without AC. Own assets and get paid

I know the urge to dunk is strong, but if you see something that makes you mad, know that any interaction with the content — dunk, reply, QT, etc — will only boost it. For GoFundMe campaigns, this only raises more money. Important to consider material vs symbolic outcomes.

The Intellective realm, and particularly the Demiurge in Proclus is fascinating and given due awe for its role; Proclus relies on myths from a few dialogues, which are the ones I want to review before going forward anyway, namely the Gorgias, Statesman, and Timaeus.

Enjoyed Edward Butler’s paper the Third Intelligible Triad and the Intellective Gods. Naturally want to check out the two previous papers as well. I think before I finish the Platonic Theology up with book 6, I want to go reread some Plato.
