Fabulous tasting of my favourite New World Chardonnays with the 4th Generation from @KumeuRiverWines and @BoxfordWine at @OUblindtasting - their Cremant and SB were the surprise discoveries of the night (great complexity and restraint respectively), rest purely for pleasure. -D

The easiest wine to identify in tonight’s blind tasting @OUblindtasting: nothing else smells quite like @chateaumusar and it was the most popular tonight by the group with about a quarter calling it their favourite! Alas, guessed it a year off, thought it 2010. Lovely flight! -D

Another instance where work overlaps with wine tasting 😋 Thanks to @OUblindtasting members for being guinea pigs in trying to tell blends from single varietals. Glad to feature FLX wines in an Australian wine journal 😉 @FLXWineCountry @FLXwine @JournalGrape -J

@WineMan147 Thank you for coming, Lee. Not just for the anecdotes and the jokes, but for the passion for and understanding of those often ignored parts of the wine world as well!

The Chinese culinary imagination never ceases to amaze: onion wine! That’s right, onion + red wine! The label claims that the onion and wine are in “perfect harmony” and that it would deliver an “unforgettable experience for the tastebuds”. I bet the latter is true 😂

Another great night with Domen — students did an awesome job with all the wines shown

And 3/3, my @OUblindtasting masterclass on structure of wine today: 20 people, 14 wines, 3.5h. A tough set of wines, but they managed very well, half never having been to a tasting before! Love to enlighten young minds! Some nice sweets to finish as well :) -D

Tonight, I taught the last in a series of 6 classes in blind tasting at @OUblindtasting to this group. In just a few weeks, they learned all about drip tests and alcohol burn, lees, oak, and MLF, covering wines from classics like Macon and as out there as (today) Petit Manseng -D

Burgundy heats up: “In 50 years, I’m convinced that Pinot Noir will no longer be suited to our region,” says Fred Mugnier of Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier. “It’s a potential catastrophe.” Frightening piece by ⁦@timatkinharpers.co.uk/news/fullstory…

Ripe and rich plummy Merlot ... from Krasnodar Krai in Russia! The first post-USSR-produced wine I had tasted from there! -D
