I know how to start a Diesel. I have 2 rabbits Ada & Lenny who I love dearly. I am an introvert, a big one actually. Computers are my life, a big one, format C:

@sysxplore I update it, then install all of the 3rd party software

@theSiliconSiren Darn dude, like skydiving with a delayed-reaction parachute. Some people's children.
English

@theSiliconSiren Boy that read/write head in the floppy drive is going to be a slight sticky. It's cool though, still works.
English

@brockpierson The one missing from here is the one I used most at the start. Windows for workgroups v3.1.1 - and before that it was DOS with networking extensions.

@theSiliconSiren @USPS Oh, no! The heck did they do, smash it with a sledgehammer?
English

Noooooooooo!! 😭
Damn you to HELL @USPS
I always wanted a pre-built Micron Millennia PC, even though I built my own. Drooled over them in Boot/Maximum PC, Computer Shopper, PC Mag, etc. I finally get one and this happens 😖
Knocked the CPU fan right off. Hope the AWE32 is ok!

@theSiliconSiren Oh, I remember the good old IRQ conflicts. You only had 15, and sound cards and modems did like 5! Goofy manufacturers.
English

@theSiliconSiren I just did it to see if it would work, luckily I didn't break it or the motherboard lol.

@OWGotStung This is the technique I tried and completely failed at with my P2 🥲😂

Back in the 90s, if you wanted to attempt to overclock your CPU, you didn’t just open the BIOS menu, you pulled off the side panel and went straight to the motherboard.
Motherboards used tiny plastic jumpers to set things like bus speed and multipliers. One wrong jumper position… and the system wouldn’t even boot. Overclocking used to be an adventure, to say the least.

@alphafox I've had so many retro computer types from 8088 to current, but I've never had a Pentium Pro or a K6-3. It's hard to get a Pentium Pro system because they bulk sell the CPUs for gold recovery.

@maietta @figamin Packard Bells were good when you took off their software and put on your own copy of Windows and such. I had one and loved it even better when I did just that. It was very stable, but keep their stuff and yes they crashed a lot. My PB was also my first brand new W95 computer.

@BenThePCGuy Windows 2000 was something special for sure, and in my opinion "peak" Windows. I liked it better than XP.
English

Arguably the best version of Windows ever.
Enough functionality for power users. Easy enough to use for normie. Rock solid stability.

On this day in 2000, Windows 2000 was released.
