In this week's @MelbLawSchool Masters intensive on Core Principles of Contract we have students participating on 4 continents, lawyers from 11 different countries and non-lawyers working in construction, property, aviation and finance. A great online experience!

If Obligations X can be held next year, it will run from July 13–16, 2021. We are hoping it can be held more or less as originally planned, as an in-person event at Harvard Law School. More definitive guidance will be provided ASAP, and hopefully by the end of 2020.

The Obligations Reading Group will discuss Lord Briggs, ‘Equity in Business’ (2019) 135 LQR 567 at our next meeting, which will be at 5pm on April 1.

Whatever form the Bill is passed in (if it passes), this is a very significant regime of which the industry (and its lawyers) needs to be aware. Its impetus lies in the general lack of common law protection which Wayne and I described in our MULR article: law.unimelb.edu.au/__data/assets/…

One of the most significant aspects, again mentioned in the article, is the proposed duty of care for pure economic loss under Pt 3. It's a complex regime; its core provision, cl 31 (in the form in which the Bill lapsed), is in this screen shot.
