During the first national lockdown, we made all our book available for 99p on kindle, as our small contribution to everyone trying to cope with the stresses of isolation and the uncertainty of covid.

Student Henry Hassell ambushed Rishi Sunak to ask him why he hates young people so much. Sunak scuttled off, but the short exchange before he managed to get away was still revealing... Henry Hassell: "I was just going to ask: why do you hate young people so much? You're making us go into the army, you're making us-" Sunak: "No. You'll have a choice, you'll have a choice." HH: "I've volunteered all my life." Sunak: "Then you'll love it." [Ouch! More tone-deaf than a brick wall.] HH: "But why am I having to do it again when I'm finally coming out of education-" Sunak: "A culture of service is a good thing for our country. And you'll have a choice." [Sprints away...] Sunak's lying by omission here. Sure, Henry and other young people will have a choice of sorts. They can try and join the military, or they can do community work for a weekend a month for a year. But there's nothing optional about the overall National Service plan. They can't say "nope, not doing either". It's like being offered a punch in the nose or a knee to the groin. There's no "no pain for me, thanks" option.
