Trying to keep brain engaged. Public services not fit for purpose; likewise our political system. Health & social care, birds, trees, classical music. Also gin.

@Tush27J The state pension is rising by £400- £500 a year meanwhile our MPs are getting £4,695 more - around 10 times the amount being given to pensioners. The more time that goes by, the wider the gap between rich and poor will become and that's something that needs to be addressed.

REMINDER. MPs pay. From 01 April 2026 up by 5% to £98,599 from £93,904. Set by IPSA. The increase is apparently to take into account extra workloads and the cost of living. All whilst many of us suffer through a cost of living crisis. #BBCBreakfast #r4today

This seems largely overlooked by the medical profession. Not only can joint/tendon pain be worsened by viral infections, any part of the body can be affected in the short, medium & long term. Regular C-19 infections & the link with worsening or new health issues is being ignored.
Howard Luks MD@hjluks

Viruses and Joint and Tendon Pain You had a cold two weeks ago. Nothing serious. But now your knee hurts more than it has in months. Your achilles is flaring. Your easy run felt like a half-marathon. You didn't do anything wrong. Here's what's actually happening...

@JamesThrot Initially they said he'd been hurt but would recover. Now the message is that he's seriously injured, so if they announce that he hasn't made it, he'll be a 'brave hero', as will the rescue team members. At this point, all announcements should be taken with a large pinch of salt.

@Microinteracti1 The man who's always a winner (in his mind) is being exposed as a potential loser in full view of the whole world and spiraling out of control. In any other setting this might have been interesting, satisfying even, to watch but this is truly terrifying.

This is what losing sounds like through a megaphone. The «President» of the United States just announced he will destroy Iranian power plants and bridges on Tuesday, signed off with “Praise be to Allah,” and apparently sees nothing wrong with any of that sentence. This is not the voice of a man in control of events. The Strait is still closed and the world is having a big laugh. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

I went to the care home today to retrieve my father’s belongings. This is what was presented to me. I had to ask twice for a private place to sort through it. I said nothing, nor will I name the “care” home. My father’s life was not garbage.

Today the @bbc is headlining a missing US pilot who was shot down while bombing schools, universities, hospitals, bridges and committing other war crimes. The Jet was flying out of Lakenheath which of course is in the UK which is NOT supporting the US war of aggression on Iran.🤔

@PovTheDay @KEriksenV2 My mother was in a care home and now my sister is in one. Both homes had problems returning clothes from the laundry back to their rightful owners, usually due to poor/no labeling of the resident's name on the clothes.

When my brother and I went to sort out my mother's belongings, we saw other care home residents wandering around in my mum's clothes. One was wearing her dressing gown and slippers. It's not that I minded the residents having those things, but I would have like to have had the chance to sort through her personal belongings first.

@fillthewhole @Young_Tibby @AdamVanBavel @covidbagofdicks It's only C-19 aware people who test now. The 'C-19 shelf' with masks and test kits seems to have disappeared from my local pharmacy. So it'll be allergies, summer colds, a bit of food poisoning plus perimenopause from now until the winter bugs take over.

@AndrewMeyerson Thank you Dr Meyerson for everything you and your colleagues do. It's Govt's responsibility to ensure the health and well-being of the public so that the UK can function efficiently, grow the economy and educate our children. We're being failed. @wesstreeting @Keir_Starmer

@snowleopardess Instead of aiming to improve public health, they're doing the exact opposite - tailoring policy to the situation they find themselves in. Similar to what's happening in the justice system - a lack of ambition to improve public services, preferring to preside over their decline.

@1goodtern Hard to have any sympathy with the Iranian regime, but plenty of sympathy for those who live there and just want something like a 'normal' life. If anything, the attack has probably made many of us despise US/Israel leadership even more.

I'm not sure how to phrase this, but has the US/Israel attack actually made people far more sympathetic towards Iran?

@LittlePersonDoc @HSJEditor @pully8 If we needed any more evidence that this Govt, aided by a complicit NHS management, has little (if any) interest in public health, this is it. They can express concern about rising sickness levels, poor school attendance & staff shortages, but it's clear they don't actually care.

@HSJEditor @pully8 It’s not in response to strikes though, is it? It’s been happening for the past 10 years. Ever increasing non-Drs practising medicine. Have tax-payers been asked about this? Does the law no longer matter? Who’s accountable when patients die?

@JustTreatment If targets are being missed, maybe Govt could consider that they're unrealistic and not possible with current resource levels. Threatening doctors isn't a way to deal with this, nor is increasing the workload of GPs by trying to limit referrals to reduce waiting list numbers.

The NHS is set to miss key targets on A&E waits, cancer care & planned treatment. Again. Behind these targets, is a real patient waiting in pain, fear or uncertainty. Patients can't wait - we need action now! theguardian.com/society/2026/m…

@LongCovidHell It's a scandal. From tomorrow GPs will have to get guidance/advice from 'hospital clinicians' (not necessarily doctors) to aid referral decisions. Many surgeries are under-resourced due to Govt policies and now more time will have to be spent helping to meet waiting list targets.

“Millions to be denied hospital referrals in drive to cut waiting lists” Wait… the government is going to cut NHS waiting lists by denying patients their referrals in the first place? You couldn’t make this up! WTF is Labour doing?! 😡 thetimes.com/uk/healthcare/…

@implausibleblog We are in it because we're facilitating the use of US planes in the war. Any assertion that these planes are on purely defensive missions can't possibly be substantiated. The UK is complicit, whatever Starmer wants us to believe.

@RoyLilley I learnt early in my business career to ask 'what are the objectives?'. MPs with little/no business experience don't do this, so we get reactions to perceived problems, often with unintended consequences. Not having objectives in healthcare is resulting in a postcode lottery.

When waiting lists rise, who is responsible? When money runs out, who decides? When priorities clash, who wins? The NHS already struggles with blurred lines of control. This doesn’t fix that. It compounds it. myemail.constantcontact.com/In-charge.html…

@CovidSolidarit1 We have to consider this bearing in mind that some, maybe many, of our medical professionals, educators, car drivers, airline pilots & others whose skills we rely on are likely affected. Not forgetting politicians, whose actions/decisions increasingly give us cause for concern.
