‘We’re told immigration is about people seeking a better life. But a better life for whom? We rarely talk about the cost to the host population. That’s why I wrote this book.’ Lionel Shriver on her new novel, A Better Life: buff.ly/EM89yqC

The fantasy of ‘strategic martyrdom’ and the industry of apologism ara.tv/c4we6 What is often described as ‘strategic martyrdom’ is, in fact, a convenient myth—one designed to obscure failure, justify endless cycles of violence, and sanctify leadership structures incapable of delivering real political outcomes

You forgot to mention that they literally waged a civil war in 2021 to prevent an investigation on the issue and it got so bad that Wafik Safa, a top Hezbollah official who survived an assassination attempt in 2024, had to come to the Justice Palace in order to threaten to kill the prosecutor But yes

The reason the Beirut port explosion is still a "mystery" 6 years later is because it was a Hezbollah nitrate rocket propellant depot that exploded. Everybody knows this but nothing was done about it. And nothing will under the Lebanese state

We are already working with the Gulf countries and practically every day we are in contact with these countries at the team level. There are already concrete results from our units in defense – we are providing our expertise and our real support. Other countries of the world should now also make their contribution to stabilization. We all need joint decisions and joint work so that there is more security for everyone. I thank everyone who contributes to coordination and shared results.

Hezbollah’s Wafic Safa: we will demand the government rescind its decision to proscribe Hezbollah’s military activities, and it will do so like a former rescinded the two decisions related to May 7 [2008].”

The goal is not a ceasefire because that keeps the Iranian Regime in power. No room to negotiate with terrorists.

If you admire the Iranian regime so much, go live under it. Don’t come to Dubai or the Gulf. Or are you scared they would execute you for looking at the wrong direction? Instead, you sit comfortably in one of the safest places in the world, even under pressure, while wishing destruction on it. You benefit from the security, the opportunities, the rule of law, then turn around and cheer for a regime that offers none of it. You don’t get to enjoy safety and advocate for chaos at the same time. Go to them and leave the safety to the people who actually appreciate it.

In my op-ed for @TheEconomist, I put forward a decisive 5-step plan to reclaim Beirut, starting with declaring it a weapons-free city and enforcing the state’s full authority over security.

The state must finally assert its authority over Lebanon’s parallel army, writes Fouad Makhzoumi, a politician economist.com/by-invitation/…
