CBS News exclusively reported that a shadowy terrorist group linked to Iran had burned Jewish ambulances in the UK. The story made no sense on its face but @bariweiss went with it anyway.
It now appears to be falling apart. UK has downgraded the charges from terror to just "arson" and won't release any information about the "UK nationals" they caught.
If they were actual Iran-linked terrorists they obviously would be behaving differently

@nxt888 @BubblegumRevolt WWII has a level of mythology around the allies too and whitewashing of war crimes in terms of bombing and actions by the Red Army. Cartoon history with good guys and bad guys and no regard for civilian deaths from the other side.

There is a mythology the U.S. built around the American War in Vietnam. It goes like this:
Young idealistic soldiers were sent into an unwinnable situation by confused politicians.
They came home broken and unappreciated.
It was a tragedy. A mistake. A lesson learned.
Notice what that story does.
It centers Americans.
Their trauma. Their confusion. Their homecoming. Their feelings.
In this story, the Vietnamese people are a backdrop.
A jungle. An obstacle. An abstraction.
Three million dead Vietnamese people are the scenery for a story about American self-discovery.
They made hundreds of movies about Vietnam.
The Deer Hunter. Apocalypse Now. Platoon. Full Metal Jacket. Born on the Fourth of July. Hamburger Hill.
Count how many of them center a Vietnamese character with a full human life, a family, a name you remember after the credits roll.
They turned our genocide into their coming-of-age story.
They lost the war and still managed to make themselves the main character.
And then, with extraordinary arrogance, they put their soldiers' names on a wall in Washington and call it a memorial, as if the dead to be mourned were the people who flew 10,000 miles to do the killing.
Where is the wall for our three million?
There isn't one.
Because in their telling, we were never quite real enough to mourn.

People bicker over whether to call this “third-worldism,” but you do see common propaganda threads here and elsewhere: the ideology is resentment-driven, civilization-skeptical, and obsessed with upending, cathartic violence enacted by the “historically downtrodden” (ie “wretched of the earth”).

Walter Lüftl, president of the Austrian Chamber of Engineers 1982-88, wrote a report in the 90's reaching the same conclusion.

If the Holocaust was “the hoax of the twentieth century” there would be evidence…. There would be documents from the Red Cross that explicitly stated the concentration camps were not used for extermination….. there would also be detailed records of how many prisoners died, and it would be significantly lower than the 6 million figure… like the documents that show 271k recorded deaths… 🧵 1/23

@joeyfreshwter @cafreiman Indeed. Many people are unaware that the original claims at Nuremberg about camps in Germany like Buchenwald had to be retracted. The remaining claims relate to camps that came under Soviet control and they are implausible.

@Steve_Sailer Here's the first page of Dahl's original essay that started all this. There is nothing remotely antisemitic about it. I suggest everyone read it, because the clear message of this controversy is: If you ever criticize Israel, you will be branded an antisemite forever.
