This attack will have a huge emotional impact on Iranians. It will stiffen their resolve to resist. What clearer proof that this is a war on the country and on its people than attacking universities and schools, the human capital infrastructure.

Black smoke now billows over Tehran and Isfahan after early‑morning US‑Israeli airstrikes, with Tehran’s Amirkabir University appearing to have suffered significant damage.

Soon after MBS bowed to U.S. pressure and opened his country's King Fahd Airbase for strikes on Iran, Tehran retaliated, hitting the base with missiles, wounding U.S. personnel and damaging multiple American aircraft, including an E-3 Sentry AWACS plane. x.com/tparsi/status/…

Trump: "He [Saudi Arabia's MBS] didn't think he'd be kissing my ass... But now he has to be nice to me. You tell him he'd better be nice to me." This is the choice the GCC will face after this war. If it moves toward deeper dependence on the US to balance Iran, they will become spineless vassals similar to Europe, who have to "kiss Trump's ass..."

@randomvichar That’s because Indians often come across as pleading for validation rather than simply stating the PoV and letting capability speak for itself. The fact that the GoI sent out an “international delegation” during Sindoor was embarrassing.

People in a village in Manipur had to walk sometimes up to 2 days to reach a hospital. Villagers requested a road many times, but the government had ignored the demand for over 30 years. Then a newly appointed IAS officer, Armstrong Pame, promised to help and build a road. He asked the government for funds → No response. Instead of waiting on hope, he created a Facebook campaign and raised ~₹40 lakh through crowdfunding. Donations came from contributors across ~25 countries. He himself contributed ₹5 lakh from his own savings. He and the villagers themselves built a 100 km road in ~210 days. The road is named “People’s Road”. The government has crores for freebies, but no money for remote villages, because it is never urgent for them.

This absolutely is not an "Indian mindset" but a complete failure of our planners / babus / ministers to provide DECENT last mile connectivity. I am a very pro public transport person, a previous office of mine was 800 m away from a metro station, figured would take the metro in, so took my scooter at the departing end, parked it in the station, took the metro and reached the station. 1) No auto agreed to go 800 M, minimum demand was Rs 150! Ditto Rapido bikes, the distance was too short. 2) It was 38* and hot, but figured will walk it out, about 5 mins in, the pavement ended, there was a giant garbage dumpster in the middle, had to skirt it, and then jostled for space with water tankers, autos, bikes, cars to cross a signal 3) not an ounce of shade anywhere I never took the metro again. Similarly once in Bom, decided to cycle to work, it was a distance of 2.5 kms....just once and never again! Till our cities have DECENT WALKABLE pavements and auto drivers who don't fleece / refuse to ply distances of 1-2 km, even metros will not have a good uptake.

Typical Indian mindset, If a Metro Doesn't Connect between MY HOME and MY XYZ DESTINATION, then that line is utterly useless and waste of money.

I really wonder what is the evidence of “diminished India’s stature in the eyes of the world” No country including Iran is being critical. Iran is treating India as a friend and allowing passage of India bound shipment through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Diplomat@Diplomat_APAC

Modi’s strong support for Israel – and refusal to condemn the Israel-U.S. strikes on Iran, a long-time friend of India’s – have “diminished India’s stature in the eyes of the world.” buff.ly/L5aPAru

NEW from @nytimes: Elon Musk was on a call between Trump and Modi this week. The two leaders talked about the Iran War started by Trump and Israel and the resulting energy crisis. Musk has business interests in the Middle East and wants a foothold in India.

Under the Fourth Geneva Convention, pillage (looting resources) is prohibited and it is explicitly a war crime under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Article 8(2)(b)(xvi): “Pillaging a town or place, even when taken by assault”

From outset of this war, U.S. soldiers fled military bases in GCC to hide in hotels and offices. They use GCC citizens as human shield. Hotels in U.S. deny bookings to officers who may endanger customers. GCC hotels should do same.

Switching over from LPG to PNG is not a geopolitical problem but an urban governance problem. Our plethora of city administrative authorities need to collaborate. Also, divesting end-point connectivity to multiple players by going beyond GAIL will unlock competition effects.
