Santa Barbara, California - A family is living a nightmare after their one-year-old English Bulldog, Bruce, drowned while in the care of Camp Canine - a facility that calls itself the city's "premier" pet resort. Chris and Ashley Merz say they weren't called when the tragedy happened. Instead, when Chris showed up at 3:30 PM to pick up his dog, he was reportedly handed Bruce’s body in a plastic storage container in the trunk of a vehicle. Police say Bruce drowned hours earlier, and by the time he was found, rigor mortis had already set in. Despite English Bulldogs not being natural swimmers, he was reportedly allowed into a yard with two unfenced pools. The facility has since admitted Bruce was never even supposed to be in that yard. While Camp Canine has suspended daycare and issued an apology, the Santa Barbara Police Criminal Investigative Unit is now involved. Also, boarding at the facility continues.
