The Southern Cassowary is essentially a living dinosaur Without this bird, the Australian rainforest would literally cease to exist; it's the only animal capable of eating and dispersing the seeds of over 200 species of trees. The dynamic is completely flipped here... the females are the massive, aggressive warriors who leave once the eggs are laid, leaving the males to do all the heavy lifting. The males are the ones who spend two months incubating these bizarre, forest-green eggs, losing massive amounts of body weight just to keep them safe. It’s nature's most effective "glitch"... a 150lb bird with a 5-inch dagger on its foot that acts as a full-time gardener with a prehistoric attitude

@AcervoCharts Fun fact: Koala fingerprints are so similar to ours that they’ve actually caused confusion at crime scenes in Australia. Even under a microscope, seasoned forensic experts have a hard time telling them apart

History in the making In this new image from our @NASAArtemis II crew, you can see Orientale basin on the right edge of the lunar disk. This mission marks the first time the entire basin has been seen with human eyes.

@Dexerto Two paleontologists say the collagen from fossils only survives as fragments from bone.. not skin. So it's not technically "T-Rex leather" in the traditional sense. The scientists involved acknowledge this criticism

@Dexerto Scientists extracted collagen protein fragments preserved in T-Rex fossils They then reconstructed and lab-grew those sequences into actual material This isn't synthetic leather inspired by dinosaurs. It's literally built from dinosaur DNA fragments

Scientists say they've created a “T-Rex leather” handbag with a $660,000 starting price The material was created using lab-grown collagen built from reconstructed T-Rex protein fragments

@BullandBaird The Moon travels at 3,680 km/h so engineers have to calculate where it will be days from now, not where it is now. Then factor in Earth's gravity, the Moon's gravity, solar pressure and the spacecraft's weight. All of it has to be precise to within meters

Air resistance and breathable air are two different things The ISS has a pressurized atmosphere so astronauts can breathe. Air resistance is the drag force that slows movement.. which requires open space and velocity Inside the ISS cabin there's air but not enough airflow to create meaningful resistance for locomotion

@ola2k4 @NASA @NASAArtemis Scientists date the impact by studying rocks melted during the collision.. their radioactive elements decay at a fixed rate, like a cosmic clock They also count how many newer craters sit on top. Fewer overlays means it's younger than the battered terrain around it

@CryptoWhale Earth is 12,742 km wide. A commercial plane is 0.07 km long. From orbit, that plane covers 0.0005% of what you're seeing Satellites are smaller and faster-moving. The camera simply doesn't have enough pixels to resolve objects that tiny against a planet-sized backdrop.

🌍 | Another photo of Earth released by NASA. And once again: no traces of airplanes, ships, or even satellites. Even though around 10,000-11,000 active satellitesare orbiting our planet, and more than 30,000 orbital objects are being tracked. And still, in these images- nothing.

@jamiemcln You actually can see human structures from space.. just not individual buildings. The ISS orbits at about 400km and astronauts can see cities as glowing patches, large reservoirs, highways, and deforestation patterns

The post isn't saying the sperm acts as an immune system, but that it carries the genetic blueprint for one. Eggs use chemical signals to favor sperm with specific HLA/MHC genes. This ensures the offspring inherits a diverse set of immune-defense genes, giving them a better 'match' for survival

Researchers used a modified virus to deliver a working copy of the OTOF gene directly into the inner ear. This gene produces a protein called otoferlin which is essential for sending sound signals to the brain.. People born without it can't hear. One injection. Some patients went from completely deaf to hearing within a month

The egg screens for genetic compatibility but it's not a perfect system. Down syndrome occurs from a chromosomal error during cell division.. that happens before or during fertilization, not because of which sperm was selected. The selection process reduces certain risks but it can't catch every chromosomal error. No biological system is flawless
