It was an honour to chair the Opening Ceremony of the IAEA/NRCRI Regional Training Course on Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Practices for Cassava Production in Africa, convened on Monday, 13th April 2026, in Abuja. This training course, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in technical partnership with the National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI), has brought together a distinguished group of researchers, biotechnologists, and policy development specialists from 14 African nations. They share a clear, evidence-based goal: to strengthen the resilience and productivity of cassava value chain across the continent in the face of growing climate uncertainty. I was particularly pleased to affirm the strong alignment between this training and SEDC's flagship South East Agro-Development Programme. This connection reflects a vital shift from isolated research toward practical, large-scale agricultural transformation. To the participants from across Africa: you are ambassadors of a new agricultural revolution. Your work, which is rooted in nuclear precision techniques is building a future where food security endures even in a changing climate. The South East Development Commission reaffirms its unequivocal institutional readiness to deepen its trilateral cooperation with the IAEA and NRCRI. We stand prepared to facilitate the systematic dissemination and localization of these validated innovations throughout the South East. #SEDC #IAEA #NRCRI #ClimateSmartAgriculture #CassavaProduction

On April 7, 2026, The people of Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency in Imo State gathered for the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Partners. This significant event drew a massive turnout of grassroots leaders, men, women, and youths, all united in support of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The assembly served as a platform to appreciate Mr President’s transformative projects and his visible commitment to the progress of Ndigbo. Attendees noted that the impacts of several federal government initiatives in the region were the primary catalysts for the Constituency's enthusiastic mobilisation. During the interactive session, the newly inaugurated leaders were charged with a clear mandate: to carry the message of the administration’s achievements to their respective wards and rural communities. Powerfully backed by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, CFR , the Renewed Hope Partners received a firm commitment from the people to ensure the re-election of President Tinubu for a second term. Additionally, the Federal Constituency expressed deep gratitude for the appointment of Dr Cliff Ogbede as Executive Director of Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Rural Development in the South East Development Commission (SEDC). They expressed gratitude that his appointment further solidified the people's resolve to remain steadfast allies of President Tinubu's vision for a prosperous Nigeria.

Highlights of our site mapping exercise across Anambra North, Central, and South, confirming the state’s strong agricultural potential driven by fertile land, water resources, and community readiness. Key sites include rice clusters in Ayamelum (supported by the Omambala River and Owusi Spring), 2,000 hectares in Umunze, and the 300-hectare Agricultural Transformation Centre in Ugbene. In total, over 25,000 hectares have been mapped, including the Lower Anambra Irrigation Project in Omor with existing infrastructure and expansion capacity. Key gaps remain land security, flood control, mechanisation, and investment coordination. With the right partnerships, these assets can evolve into modern farm estates and agro-industrial hubs, boosting food security and economic growth. Following SEV2050 priorities, SEDC will soon announce timelines for commencing agro-mechanisation projects in implementation-ready states.

Over three days, we conducted a comprehensive site mapping exercise across Anambra State. The assessment covered the three agricultural zones: Anambra North, Anambra Central, and Anambra South. The findings confirm that Anambra State possesses significant agricultural potential. The region offers vast arable land, abundant water resources, and strong community readiness for development. We identified several key locations. These include the extensive rice clusters in Ayamelum Local Government Area, supported by the Omambala River and Owusi Spring. We also assessed 2,000 hectares in Umunze, fed by the Agho Mmiri Ugwu Agbada River, and the 300-hectare Agricultural Transformation Centre in Ugbene. In total, more than 25,000 hectares of arable and partially developed land have been mapped. This includes the Lower Anambra Irrigation Project in Omor, which features functional irrigation infrastructure and considerable room for expansion. The primary challenges remain land security, flood control, mechanisation, and coordinated investment. With targeted intervention and credible investor partnerships, these assets can be developed into modern farm estates and integrated agro-industrial hubs. Such transformation will strengthen food security and drive sustainable economic growth. In line with the resolutions on agricultural development outlined in SEV2050, SEDC will shortly announce the timetable for the scheduled commencement of work at the designated agro-mechanisation sites, specifically in states where the implementation process has been finalized.

I had the honour of representing Mr. Mark Okoye, Managing Director/CEO of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), at the Grand Finale of the Enugu Campus Hackathon 2026 held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu. Championed by the Enugu State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, the initiative brought together over 5,000 students from six tertiary institutions who developed solutions across AgriTech, HealthTech, FinTech, EdTech, and Clean Energy—sectors central to SEDC’s regional development agenda. In my keynote, I reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthening the innovation ecosystem through the South East Venture Capital Programme (SEVCP), planned innovation hubs, and strategic partnerships that will enable young founders to access funding and mentorship within the region. The ingenuity of the finalists—particularly those addressing agriculture, healthcare, and energy access—demonstrates that the South-East is rich in talent. What remains critical is the right support and smart capital to help these ideas scale. My sincere appreciation to His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah, Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, the Enugu SME Centre, Judges, Genesys Tech Hub, The Garage, and Capitis Global Ventures for setting a benchmark for regional innovation. The future is bright, and SEDC remains committed to providing the platforms our young innovators need to thrive. #SEDC #EnuguCampusHackathon #InnovationEcosystem #VentureCapital #SouthEastNigeria #YouthEnterprise #DrCliffOgbede

Yesterday, I had the solemn duty of representing the SEDC Board and Management at the funeral of Madam Nwannediya Titi Uko in Amangwu Akoli-Imenyi, Bende LGA, Abia State. We stood in support of our colleague, the Deputy Director of Finance, Chief Charles Uko, as he laid his beloved mother to rest. It was an occasion filled with both tears and gratitude for a life well-lived. May her soul rest in peace. 🕊️

This past week in Enugu, the South East Development Commission hosted the inaugural convening for the landmark South East Vision 2050 initiative. The strategic cross-sectoral assembly brought together senior representatives from government, the business community, international development partners, the diaspora, and civil society. Throughout four days of intensive deliberations, a definitive consensus crystallized: the pathway to sustainable progress for the South East lies in unified, regional strategy. Discussions advanced from aspirational goals to the architectural specifics of implementation, meticulously addressing the core pillars of institutional reform, human capital investment, infrastructure modernization, security, cultural stewardship, and innovative financing models. South East Vision 2050 constitutes a binding regional compact, a pledge to adhere to a defined strategic path with unwavering resolve for the next 25years. The formal adoption of the Stakeholders’ Communiqué marks the critical transition from dialogue to action. Our collective focus must now shift to the systematic translation of this shared blueprint into tangible, coordinated outcomes. The future of the South East will be forged through our concerted and deliberate collaboration. #SEV2050 #SEDC #SouthEastRising #RegionalDevelopment #FutureFocused

A Clarification on Regional Development, Expectations, Progress and SE Vision 2050 Forum I’ve seen comments questioning the pace, purpose, and competence behind the work of the South East Development Commission (SEDC). While I usually ignore noise, it’s important to clarify a few fundamentals for those genuinely interested. First, SEDC was not created to replicate State or Local Government functions. It was established by Mr. President, with National Assembly support, to drive long-term regional planning, coordinate region-wide infrastructure, and mobilize capital at scale. This mandate is clearly stated in our Establishment Act. Regional development is, by definition, long-term, evidence-driven, and capital-intensive. It does not lend itself to quick wins or ad hoc interventions. Despite a challenging fiscal environment affecting the entire system, in the ten months since our inauguration, we have deliberately focused on foundations. In that period, we have: • Built a credible institution from scratch, with clear roadmaps, governance structures, and transparent internal processes • Achieved alignment with all five South East State Governments on a shared regional development approach, now being broadened through the SE Vision 2050 process • Developed bankable, region-wide project concepts in rail, power, gas, industrial parks, agro-estates, and economic corridors • Secured Presidential approval for the South East Investment Company, our capital mobilization and project preparation vehicle, now being set up • Engaged Federal MDAs, DFIs, academia, the private sector, civil society, and the diaspora This approach is intentional. Serious development is built through sequencing, trade-offs, and discipline, not speed or optics. There is also a deeper issue we must confront honestly. As a people, we often approach development with a short-term mindset: quick turnover, immediate returns, visible gains. That mindset does not build regions. It does not deliver rail systems, power infrastructure, industrial corridors, or competitive cities. History is HIGHLY instructive. In Lagos under President Tinubu as Governor, when long-term masterplans for Lekki, the Free Trade Zone, Deep Sea Port, Eko Atlantic and light rail were announced, no cement blocks were laid for years. What came first was planning, land assembly, stakeholder alignment, and capital structuring. Two decades later, the infrastructure stands. That is how serious development works. Questions about competence are frankly misplaced. My public service record is not theoretical. From my mid-twenties, I have worked across three Governors and four administrations purely on merit, directly involved in institution-building, investment promotion, major masterplans, fiscal reforms, donor mobilization, and transparency outcomes. These records are public and verifiable. Critique is healthy and welcome. But development cannot be reduced to insults, impatience, or the false idea that meetings equal failure. Planning is work. Institution-building is work. Coordination is work. Without them, execution collapses. Our mandate is clear. We have an assignment from Mr. President to build a sustainable framework for the South East’s long-term development, in collaboration with State Governments. We will continue to execute deliberately and consistently. In time, results will speak, as they always do. 🙂 MOII P.S. While the noise continues, over 1,000 stakeholders applied to participate in the South East Vision 2050 Forum within 24 hours. If interested, the link remains open: bit.ly/SEV2050_Stakeh…
