The great universities will surely survive, but they may return to their former role as a place were already secure elites receive culture, read literature, etc. Their pivot towards being technical/career training schools is quite recent and this role may shift elsewhere.

This is actually true to a very weird extent,
a massive part of the appeal relates to Thai boys love/girl love dramas,
which China was also beginning to develop an industry of,
until the CPC tamped down on it, as they felt it encouraged homosexuality.
The Thai entertainment industry hasn't really exploited it to its full extent yet. The wave is just beginning really in regards to this export.
