@NajeebAdamu1 Wait, female lawyers are actually in this comment section saying what's your business 😂😂 I mean maybe it's not really the business of another lawyer but y'all actually know it's not proper court dressing. But you just don't care right?

"It’s not a glitch. WhatsApp is now showing you Status updates from people" you’ve recently messaged" or called, even if you don’t have their number saved in your contacts. This includes: 1. One-time chats (like your mechanic, trader, or delivery guy) 2. Old conversations you thought were dead 3. In some cases, very old blocked numbers if the block wasn’t recent" Copied verbatim from your original post. Being in the same group does not mean I have: 1. Ever interacted with them personally, not one-time. 2. No old conversation 3. Not numbers I blocked. But now your English is twisted from those 3 points to having similar interests and something in common. Maybe if you had added that, I would have no need to point it out. Because that is the most accurate in the context. I read to understand exactly what you wrote originally. Not what you think I should infer from it.

If you are in a WhatsApp group with other people, does that not create a connection between you and them? You being in the same group suggests that you have similar interests or something in common, could be business, pleasure, family, club or event... you name it. Secondly, if you read to understand, you will see that it was clearly stated you can not turn that feature off. But an alternative for more privacy was what i listed out. Thirdly, if you didn't understand anything from 1 to 2, how then can you conclude that it's AI? Where you reading to understand or you just used AI to summarize? Please, abeg... don't even go there.

SO WHATSAPP IS SUDDENLY SHOWING YOU STATUSES FROM PEOPLE YOU DON’T KNOW (OR BLOCKED)? Yes, this is a real new feature that WhatsApp started rolling out in early 2026 (and more users are observing it now). It’s not a glitch. WhatsApp is now showing you Status updates from people you’ve recently messaged or called, even if you don’t have their number saved in your contacts. This includes: 1. One-time chats (like your mechanic, trader, or delivery guy) 2. Old conversations you thought were dead 3. In some cases, very old blocked numbers if the block wasn’t recent. The goal is to make Status more useful for quick interactions (especially for WhatsApp Business users). But for regular users, this is now feeling like privacy invasion, and many Nigerians are complaining about it. CAN YOU TURN THIS OFF OR CHANGE IT? Short answer: Not completely (yet). This is a server-side change, so there’s no single “off” switch for seeing other people’s statuses. But here’s what you CAN do right now: 1. You can control who sees YOUR Status (most important) Go to WhatsApp → Settings → Privacy → Status Choose “My contacts” (this allows only saved contacts to see your status) or “My contacts except (You will select contacts from your saved numbers you don't want to see your status here)…” & the toughest privacy is the “Only share with (Here you will have to select the people you want to view by yourself, so even if you save a new number it doesn't automatically fall in line to view, unless you manually add them)…” This stops random people (and unsaved numbers) from seeing your updates. 2. Hide specific statuses When you see an unwanted status, long-press it → Mute Status or Hide. Block the person completely If it’s someone you truly don’t want any interaction with, block them again (old blocks sometimes don’t fully apply after updates). 3. Keep WhatsApp updated Sometimes newer versions give you better privacy controls. Just so you know WhatsApp is slowly making Status behave more like Instagram Stories, less strict about saved contacts. This is part of their bigger plan (ads are coming to Status soon). Your privacy is still mostly in your hand, just tighten your Status privacy settings today.

Why is WhatsApp showing me status of people I don’t have on my contacts list. People I don’t know, and people I’ve blocked decades ago. What’s wrong with that green app? Is this a glitch or a new feature… who else has experienced this?

So some context on the prosecution and conviction of the Adeyeye AKA Swanky, who falsely declared a 6 year old dead and carried out sustained online attacks on AG and his family. In arriving at its decision, the Court considered the pleas made on behalf of the convict, including his parents’ apology letters, health condition, age, demeanour before the Court, timely admission of guilt, and the fact that he is a first-time offender.   After considering all relevant factors, the Court sentenced him as follows:
2 years on Count 1 under Section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes Act 2024; 2 years on Count 2 under Section 24(2)(i) of the Cybercrimes Act 2024; and 1 year on Count 3 under Section 375 of the Criminal Code Act, with the sentences to run concurrently.   The Court also gave an option of a 1 Million Naira Fine and further restrained the convict from engaging in any further conduct capable of injuring the complainants.

@BigIfy_23 @ms0nigghaz If I had pleaded guilty, in a normal society, the judgment should have been a fine, that's why defamation should be decriminalized In Ekiti state, such a thing cannot happen because there is nothing like criminal defamation there

Oya nau. To people supporting this disproportionate punishment, I hope you won't cry foul when the Abuja Hitler (famous for his relationship with judges) bundles you like a goat for saying disparaging things about his sons. The crime should always fit the punishment. Samuel's offence is at worst a 3 month jail term. OR even better, A 250k fine + 1 month of community service cleaning gutters in Kano +A mandatory 3 month civil course for him to realize the error of his ways. Torh.

While it seem they're just doing their job the typical media way, there should be some level of professional restraint particularly in the context of a deceased person. There was never supposed to be another question around it the moment Williams said he wants to respect his will.

@na_praise This is exactly what people want to normalise by advocating for the other guy saying two years jail is too much. Despite that, this kind people are still doing the same thing. So imagine just giving them community service.

Oh, I am very civil on the Internet. As a matter of fact I do not tweet unless necessary. And when I do, I choose my words responsibly. That's exactly what bangers boys should do too. And yes I have insulted people here very well, especially in the last couple of days, but it is because the came for me first. If you insult me unprovoked, I will insult you, your father, mother and your entire generation.

In my opinion, that presumed overreach would rather bring sanity. At least it allows people know generally what to say and what not to say by; * Sharing opinions responsibly. * Criticising constructively (in case of the people in government we so much fear would take advantage of it) So if you must criticise the politician, do it but don't lie or defame while at it. Generally, criminalising defamation in Nigeria context doesn't take away freedom of expression, it sanitises it.
Not the little B 💕✨@BlehisBack

This is it. I’m wary of where criminalizing defamation could lead. But in a country like this, I understand the need to go all the way in punishing those reckless banger boys. No sympathy for those silly cretins‼️ Still, the concern is real. It can be stretched beyond its original intent. So it’s not straightforward. On one hand, it can feel like the most efficient way to deliver justice to victims and deter others from acting stupid. On the other, it opens the door to overreach. Both things can be true at the same time.
