📢🔥 In the Pi Day 2026 announcement, Pi Core Team clearly stated: 👇 “Protocol 20 provides the foundation to enable smart contract capabilities.” 🤨 But it seems many people may be misunderstanding what that actually means. 😑 🧱 P20 does NOT mean: “Full Smart Contracts are already ready.” It means: P20 started laying the foundation for Smart Contracts to eventually exist on Pi Network. ⚙️ Because for Smart Contracts to truly operate at scale… the blockchain infrastructure itself must be strong enough first. That’s why we are seeing the upgrade path: P21 → P23 → P26 Think of it like this: ⚡ P20 → starting to install the electrical system for an entire city. 🛣️ P23 → P26 → upgrading the roads, servers, databases, and the entire network infrastructure so the city can handle millions of people. 🏪 Smart Contracts → the shops/apps that gradually begin opening inside that city. And right now, many pieces appear to be moving in parallel: ✅ Testnet has reached P26 ✅ Smart contracts are being audited ✅ Code development is highly active ✅ Pi Wallet continues receiving updates It increasingly looks like this entire upgrade sequence is preparing the blockchain for something much bigger: ⚙️ making the network strong enough before opening a larger smart contract ecosystem. Including: 🖥️ node infrastructure → like building more power stations and operation centers for the city. 🗄️ database sync → ensuring every area updates the same data consistently without mismatches. ⚡ execution performance → increasing processing speed so millions of actions can run smoothly. 🌐 RPC backend scalability → expanding the “access gateways” so massive numbers of apps and users can connect simultaneously without congestion. And Smart Contracts may not launch all at once immediately. 👀 The first stage could be: 📦 subscription contracts → similar to automatic service renewals. 🤝 escrow contracts → like a trusted middle layer holding funds during transactions. 🛠️ simple utility contracts → basic logic powering ecosystem applications. Then later: 🖼️ NFT logic 🛒 marketplace logic 🤖 app automation At that point, the ecosystem would begin looking like a true “digital city” with: 🏪 stores 🛒 marketplaces 🧩 services 📱 applications running together simultaneously. And only later could it eventually progress toward: 🌍 permissionless contracts → where anyone can deploy contracts freely. 👨‍💻 broader developer deployment → external developers building apps at scale. 🚀 a more open ecosystem → where the blockchain enters a much larger growth phase. This is not a direct announcement. But it almost feels like a silent declaration that: ⚠️ the wheel has already started turning. Everything is being built in parallel.
