Because Israel's military lawyers undoubtedly told them, if there was any doubt, that you can't kill hundreds of civilians in a building to get to Hezbollah offices and kill a handful of operatives, but you can issue an evacuation order and destroy the building. This is only hard if you believe that Israel doesn't pay attention to the laws of war.

I don’t get it. If Hezbollah had flats in this block (unlikely in central Beirut but not impossible) why did the Israelis give everyone inside an hour to get out — including those they wanted to kill? And if there weren’t any Hezbollah people there, why destroy a building with dozens of civilians in it?

Before, it was illegal to abort a stillborn baby after 24 weeks. A grieving mother would have to carry their dead child to term with all the risks that come with it. The bill that the Lords just passed decriminalised it.

Keir Starmer had an appalling performance at Prime Minister’s Questions today. It was summarised very well later in the session by Conservative MP Andrew Snowden.
Starmer had indeed spent his exchanges with Kemi Badenoch largely lashing out at the Tory leader rather than answering her repeated questions about Mandelson.
She had rightly decided to just keep pushing with the same question until the Prime Minister’s answers became increasingly ludicrous and irrelevant.

Supporters of Assisted Dying remain silent on how the Bill should be improved. The proposed amendments are trying to make the Bill safer, informed by medical colleges, professional groups and experts. And yet they are all dismissed. This is not how safe & workable laws are made.
