You're 100% right - and the data actually shows it. At the same pitch speed, heavier balls do load the joints slightly more. The mass of the heavier ball definitely matters. But the thing to understand is that you don't throw all balls at the same speed. You throw lighter balls faster and heavier balls slower. It turns out that velocity is just a much bigger driver of joint stress than ball weight. In this study with youth players every extra mph costs ~2.4 Nm. The speed difference between a 4oz & 6oz throw dwarfs the mass difference in terms of the varus torque at the elbow.
