In two leaked emails to Tim Davie, director-general of the BBC, a BBC correspondent sets out how the corporation, despite trumpeting its Verify service, allowed for many months Israeli spokespeople to promote unchallenged entirely unverified claims – now known to be lies – about the events of October 7.
He concludes:
"There has been a sustained collapse in the application of some of the most basic editorial standards on BBC outlets when it comes covering the events of October 7, one that appears aligned with Israel’s propaganda strategy.
"Claims and testimony that encourage the most extreme portrayals of Israel’s enemies are allowed to be repeated without challenge – regardless of whether or not they’re backed by evidence.
"Claims and testimony that raise the possibility of Israeli disinformation around the events of October 7 are ignored – despite the evidence.
"Such coverage is likely to have aided Israel’s efforts to ensure political support in the West for its actions, and to intimidate those opposed to them and portray them as supporters of the most hideous atrocities.
"An important subject for future examination is the extent to which incitement and hate speech against Palestinians have been permitted on BBC outlets."

Former foreign office minister says collusion between 'defenders of Israeli extremism' and senior Conservatives led to probe against him.
Former UK minister Alan Duncan has been cleared of allegations of antisemitism and has said that a Tory probe launched into him was an example of “underhand collusion” between “immoderate defenders of Israeli extremism” and senior Conservative figures.
