@juliette_clare Haha. Thanks! Hope you’ve finally made it off your Ryanair flight…

@OllyHamilton Congratulations! The exhaustion doesn’t ever fully go, but it does get easier with time 😂 also I added orange juice to my tea once….

Which reminds me - a belated massive thank you to @LiverpoolWomens for an excellent & safe birth experience last week

@VirtueOfNothing @charlot_summers @cardiacpolymath @wi_john @smead2 @StephenORahilly @peteturton85 @briwbri Yes that is not the experience in the NW. trainees are generally completing Stage 1 then doing a year of research to complete ACF before starting stage 2 or doing higher degree.
English

@charlot_summers @cardiacpolymath @wi_john @smead2 @StephenORahilly Interesting. Regional experience here is that an ACF does in fact extend training. Especially when ACF time taken as a block, but rotations are time-based (anaesthesia, ICM). Ping @peteturton85 @briwbri thoughts?

UK clinical academic training pathway ~17y start to finish? Sounds harsh but at my 1st consultant post I was 39, so not far off reality
The loss of income going down this route is unsustainable (unless independently wealthy?)

@smead2 Interesting. I think if you followed a full IATs now it would not be possible to do it in less than 17 years with no time out of training. That does not affect my personal situation too much but this will definitely put many talented people off academic training like you say.

@DrRJRussell Today an anaesthetic consultant dropped off a patient. He was a Med student shadowing me as F1. My badge says ST4…

Republican legislators in South Carolina have proposed a bill to change the state’s laws, making a fertilised egg or embryo a person and charging a woman who has an abortion with murder, which carries a 30 year prison sentence or the death penalty

I don’t understand when @SteveBarclay says our pay demands are unaffordable. Can’t we take it for the £350m per week that was promised #PayRestoration

English

@Manoj_Wickram @BBCWorld That’s not fair Manoj, they’ve covered strikes… French refuse collectors’ strikes
English

Thousands of doctors on an unprecedented strike across the country yet @BBCWorld have no coverage today whatsoever. To be fair to them, much more critical things are happening like the stamps changing.
English

Looking forward to making a protest for #PayRestoration. The estimate for paying junior doctors what they were paid in 2008 is ~1% of the budget for HS2

Should be staying up late pre-nights, but instead getting to bed early to be on the picket. Huge thanks to the supportive consultant ICU body at @LivHospitals, your letter to trainees made us feel very valued

@VirtueOfNothing @rosieICM Or stick some dilute peripheral norad on and the CVC can wait until you go find another machine
English

@rosieICM Whilst I can still do a landmark subclavian, I can hardly imagine a hypothetical situation where it would be justifiable and safe to do so. Increased access to IO obviates this need for ‘a rapid landmark central line’ in my view.

Just received my Associate PI certificate for @UKRoxTrial at Aintree ICU @LivHospitals. An excellent example of embedding pragmatic research into everyday ICU care. Thanks to Sash, Ben, Ian & the team there for supporting me!
