Scoop: A company called MowPod has been selling podcasters and networks a tool that yields more followers on Apple Podcasts, resulting in a "significantly elevated position" on the app's charts. It told clients it achieved this by putting banner ads on websites. In reality, and unbeknownst to many clients, it also incentivized gamers to follow shows through in-game rewards. Wondery, Alex Cooper of Call Her Daddy, Lemonada and Netflix are among its customers. In fact, of the top 50 shows in the US yesterday, I spotted nine that had been promoted in games recently.
