@LukasHozda It sounds like a bad idea that the compiler reorders the variables. Someone will expect that the variables will be in the order in the struct as he defined it.

retard thinks OOP is bad bc of vtables.. No dude, it’s the 4ms overhead on main thread bc of fucked up mem access patterns and slate fuckery..
180 treehouse@180Treehouse

@simplex_fx @JoeWilsonEQ1 im sure the 5 nanosecond overhead of a vtable is what is ruining modern games performance, not the 30ms frametime increase from just turning nanite on

@dubya_brian @valigo It still adds costs at compile time. So his statement is correct that it moves the costs somewhere else. And as far as I know if it isn't the release build, it also adds costs to the runtime.

@valigo wrt zero-cost abstractions, it's a term that's often used inappropriately but legitimate examples exist. Rust iterators are an example. You can map/filter/reduce and it lowers to equivalent procedural code.

Human nature is to oversell things: serverless -> there are servers zero cost abstractions -> move cost elsewhere lock-free data structures -> hardware locks AI situation is even worse We must present everything as an absolute win, or it doesn't count. Why are we like this.

@LundukeJournal I used Lutris some time ago, but stopped because it is just a buggy mess (even before AI was a thing).

The Lunduke Journal@LundukeJournal·
The core developer of Lutris (a video game organization and compatibility system for Linux) has declared that he specifically uses Anthropic’s Claude, for AI coding, because “at least I’m not paying Google, Facebook, OpenAI or some company that cooperates with the US Army”. The developer has also stopped noting which code commits were created by AI. “So good luck figuring out what’s generated and what is not.” #issuecomment-3976118573" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">github.com/lutris/lutris/…

@valigo I like stories that are kinda morally grey. Where everyone has its own interest and where some characters aren't evil because they are just evil or have some really bad written reasoning why they are evil.

@valigo One thing I dislike about many “good vs. evil” stories is how hard they try to force the labels. I find it much more interesting when the conflict comes from characters with different goals and interests, rather than a simple "look how evil this person is" thing.

Becoming an adult is realizing that morally grey storytelling is a middle of the midwit meme. And good vs evil is actually always were, and always will be the best

When I first came to X, I said I would not get political. I specifically put my big bloody face as my profile pic under my real name so I would not do this. That did not work. So I made alt account to get it all out of my system. That lets this account be more tech focused.

@CharlestonArchi I know an architect that was on the board for an architecture school at a large state university and he finally stepped down because he got tired of arguing for more training in traditional architecture only to be told he was a “regressive thinker” and “there’s no demand”

@falconerd Sometimes I also use it if the documentation online sucks and I just need a fast example to see how a library is used. For tasks like that LLMs can be really nice. If search engines were better, I wouldn't need LLMs at all.

@falconerd I limited my use of LLMs to just searching stuff. For example if I need another word with similar meaning and I can't find a good one myself, I ask the AI to get more ideas. Or for example I remember something that was mentioned in a book and can't remember the name of the book.

Through 2025, I used LLMs extensively - offloading tasks that would otherwise make me feel uncomfortable to sit down and solve. I generated decision frameworks, writing prompts, and "asked" for advice about interpersonal issues. Claude generated dozens of plans over the year, at my behest, for how I was going to "fix everything". Slowly, I began to notice something: any time I felt uncertain, I'd reach for an LLM to analyse the problem space. In turn, that seemed to make me less sure of my own decisions - I was becoming dependent on the idiot machine. I could tell this was becoming a problem and canceled my subscriptions in November. A few weeks later, I saw some new research indicating that usage of LLMs in the way I had been causes loss of critical thinking skills over time. Seeing as critical thinking is a vital skill, this cemented my already-made decision to go LLM-free. I was originally thinking one month, but after reading that, and feeling the negative effects myself, I'm going to be LLM-free for (at least) a year. Instead, 2026 will be about consuming nourishing inputs - building a daily reading habit, writing essays, and, of course, programming video games. I hope anyone else who has been offloading critical thinking to the machine will read this and take a look inside to see if it's a problem.
