In this OncoDaily feature, Davide Ciardiello, MD, PhD, discusses the clinical implications of these four studies and the continuing role of chemotherapy within biomarker-based treatment strategies. @DCiardiello @myESMO @oncodaily @skopetz @CathyEngMD @TaberneroJosep @ChiaraCrem1 @FilippoPietran4 Read the full article on OncoDaily - oncodaily.com/oncolibrary/ga… #ESMOGI2026 #ColorectalCancer #OncoDaily

Periscope II should not be interpreted as evidence that regional therapy has no role in GCPM. It demostrates CRS+ HIPEC did not improve OS without biomarker guided systemic tx alone in unselected population with PCI < 7, diff from piano study, next step should focus on IO and Taget tx ( more effective systemic tx) and translational endpoints that should will benefit.@oncodaily @OncoAlert @COH_SurgOnc @jgong15 @ronanhsieh @Yanghee61217641 @laleh_melstrom

🌟 New paper in @Cancer_Cell ⭐ Spatial multi-omics of CRC macro- and micrometastases from 19 patients shows liver micrometastases emerge early as a distinct dormant, stem-like state. ⭐️ They persist after therapy and are surrounded by exhausted immune cells with PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoint signaling. ⭐️ A 6-gene signature (MicroMetSig) from spatial profiling predicts shorter disease-free survival, higher recurrence risk, and chemotherapy resistance. 💡Tissue-based markers could complement ctDNA for MRD detection. ❓What approaches do you see for targeting these hidden micrometastases?

🔵 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿: 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁? Immunotherapy has become an important part of treatment for gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer, particularly in combination with chemotherapy or in biomarker-selected patients. Key advances include: • Improved survival with nivolumab plus chemotherapy in advanced disease • High response rates with pembrolizumab, trastuzumab, and chemotherapy in HER2-positive disease • Durable benefit in MSI-H/dMMR tumours • A growing role for perioperative immunotherapy in resectable disease PD-L1 expression, MSI/dMMR status, HER2 status, disease stage, and treatment setting help guide the appropriate use of immunotherapy. @salahAlBatran @TaberneroJosep @KoheiShitara Read the full OncoDaily overview - oncodaily.com/oncolibrary/im… #GastricCancer #OncoDaily #OncoDailyGI

🧬 Disitamab Vedotin, Tislelizumab, and S-1 Show Encouraging First-Line Activity in HER2-Overexpressing Advanced Gastric Cancer A single-arm phase II study evaluated first-line disitamab vedotin + tislelizumab + S-1 in 57 patients with HER2-overexpressing advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma. Key findings: • Confirmed ORR: 89.5% • Disease control rate: 98.2% • Median PFS: 13.8 months • Median OS: 31.9 months Clinical activity was observed in patients with both PD-L1 CPS ≥1 and CPS <1 tumors. Grade ≥3 treatment-related adverse events occurred in 64.9% of patients. @oncodaily @OncoDailyIO Read the full article on OncoDaily -> oncodaily.com/oncolibrary/ga… #GastricCancer #HER2 #OncoDaily

🔵 𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗚𝗜 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 🔵 The WHO Global status report on cancer 2026 highlights major gaps across the GI cancer pathway, from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment access, and financial protection. The report points to several critical gaps: 🔵 Colorectal cancer screening saves lives, but many countries still lack organized screening programmes. 🔵 H. pylori eradication can reduce gastric cancer risk and mortality, but national population-based programmes are still missing. 🔵 Hepatitis B vaccination can prevent future liver cancer, but birth-dose coverage remains below global targets. 🔵 Alcohol and obesity prevention remain central for reducing esophageal cancer risk. 🔵 Pancreatic cancer remains defined by late diagnosis, making earlier risk identification an important future priority. The message is simple: 𝗚𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. It is about whether health systems can deliver prevention, timely diagnosis, pathology, surgery, biomarker testing, systemic therapy, palliative care, and financial protection to the patients who need them. @WHO @oncodaily 📎oncodaily.com/oncolibrary/ga… #GICancers #WHO #OncoDaily
