Ergotamine & ergocristine are biosynthesized by Claviceps purpurea during their late parasitic stage. The fungi don't make LSD. Chemists used those alkaloids to make lysergic acid & then turned it to LSD, an overrated drug.

@JoshBloomACSH As an organic chemist, you should know that "synthetic" is not a meaningless term, and even with all the dramatic improvements, there's still a world of difference between biosynthesis and the synthesizing going on in human laboratories beyond our skin.

@Stevemac270 @simonmaechling ? 😅 I guess you also follow the other "proscience" pretender who's more interested in defending the worst parts of the agro industry and promoting nuclear power than in the intricacies of biosnthesis: @camjenglish and who aldo also works at the shady @ACSHorg

@Stevemac270 Reminder: Because of its toxicity, it's banned in many places, including the European Union. Still used (with restrictions) in countries like the Canada & the U.S. There’s ongoing debate about: worker safety; accidental poisonings & its environmental impact.

@ACSHorg The deaths occurred over many years. LSD related fungus? You mean the way ergotamine & ergocristine are biosynthesized by Claviceps purpurea during their late parasitic stage? The fungi don't make LSD. Chemists used those alkaloids to make lysergic acid& then turned it to LSD.

Drugs in your cereal. Sounds fun (to some of you), but it is, in fact, very dangerous. The LSD-related fungus they're talking about used to kill thousands of people. With modern science, we have the tools to keep our food supply safe. 🙌
@camjenglish@camjenglish

Would you like LSD in your Wheaties? 🧪 Toxicologist @DrLizaMD breaks down a surprising public health win: Pesticides help keep ergot fungus (LSD's natural cousin) from turning your cereal into an accidental trip. P.S. ergotism used to kill 20-40K people at a time. 🪦

@HankCampbell Fucking unions, man! They are the reason workers are underpaid by corporations who, as everyone knows, are vaccinated against greed. But unions, no... they're all anti-vaxxers. You should run for Prez, Hank. I know we already have a genius president and Einsteins like RKJ but...

My therapist told me to write letters to everyone I hate and then burn them. I did that, but now I don't know what to do with those letters. amzn.to/42JraBv *** If you enjoy scientific insights like this, 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘚𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 2.0 is available on Amazon. Free if you have KIndle Unlimited!

@OneFactPer_Day @dale_etc @simonmaechling i’m gonna call time on this one, champ. there was a certain overweening hope of seeming sharp in the first one but the spark’s gone. self-soothing with ai slop and being so easily baited shows you’ve lost the spark. maybe this newly minted account will have better luck elsewhere

I’m a chemist. Let me explain what organic really means. Organic means carbon-based. It includes things like sugar, caffeine, plastic, gasoline and you. So no, organic doesn’t mean safe. It doesn’t mean natural. It doesn’t mean healthy. If it has carbon, it’s organic.

They told you chemicals are the problem. This image tells a different story. Every square = an element. Every element = a tool. Every tool = progress. ⚡ Lithium → batteries 🌱 Nitrogen → food for billions 📱 Silicon → your entire digital life 🩺 Technetium → medical imaging No “chemicals” → no civilization. The irony? The same people who fear “chemicals” live surrounded by them depend on them and are alive because of them. Everything is chemistry. The question is not what is natural but what works safely. Risk ≠ hazard. Dose matters. Evidence based decisions matter. We didn’t escape nature. We learned how to use it. And that’s why you’re here reading this.

@simonmaechling @CuriosityonX He won't. There are building blocks of RNA in space, not entire molecules. While doing public relations for your company, you should read and learn about science more carefully before broadcasting it.

@marshofsleep @dale_etc @simonmaechling Well, I want to relate to you, snowflake. So I can't start discussing how relativistic effects vary from s to p orbitals, causing some atoms to be unexpectedly stingy with their electrons and others far more loose with theirs, can I?

"The bias was breathtaking." Part 3 of my #PlasticFearComplex looks at how the Minderoo Foundation could fund a propaganda film called the #PlasticDetox to advance the political goals of its billionaire founder. My film review was harsher than their lies and fearmongering.
THE FIREBREAK@the_firebreak

Andrew Forrest's Minderoo Foundation funded the fear-laden lobbumentary, the #PlasticDetox. @zaruk has reviewed the film and was not impressed. Millions were spent to advance lawsuits, spread fear and lies and confuse the public. And it was poorly produced thefirebreak.org/p/the-plastic-…

Dismissing EVs as a "grift for wealthy white people" reveals you haven't done you're homework, don't have experience with EVs, and don't recognize the long term trend, which is clear. We can probably agree the federal incentives, tax credits, mandates, subsidies, etc, in favor of EVs put an unfair burden on working class folks and was a form of ideologically driven regressive taxation. But dismissing EVs wholesale as a grift tells me you're missing the boat, not seeing the whole picture.
