Hawaa Abdullah stood before cameras yesterday with around a dozen family members beside her, many in tears, to remember her father, Amin Abdullah, the security guard killed shielding 140 children at the Islamic Centre of San Diego. Her father was one of three men who died protecting worshippers from two teenage gunmen. She recited verses from the Quran. Then she spoke. "He was the absolute best dad in the world. He was my protector." "My father was the number one advocate for safety and keeping our community safe. He stood against any form of hate." She described a man so devoted to his post that he sometimes skipped meals, afraid something would happen if he stepped away. The week before the attack, Hawaa received her teaching credential. Her father missed the celebration because he was working. He saw the photos after. Just two weeks before he was killed, Amin posted to Facebook: "May Allahu ta'ala grant us Husnal Khatimah, a righteous ending to life." He got exactly that. May Allah have mercy on Amin Abdullah, Nader Awad, and Mansour Kaziha. May Allah grant their families sabr and healing. Ameen.

Why are they shooting Muslims❓ The attack on the Islamic Centre of San Diego did not happen in a vacuum. Words can be fatal.

Mosque Attack in San Diego Leaves Three Dead as Children Flee for Safety Three Muslim men were killed after two gunmen opened fire outside the Islamic Centre of San Diego on Monday morning, in what police are investigating as a possible anti-Muslim hate crime. The attackers, aged 17 and 19, were later found dead several blocks away from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Inside the mosque complex was a school filled with children, who were evacuated safely as chaos unfolded. Among those killed was Amin Abdullah, a security guard described by community members as a hero after reportedly stopping the attackers from entering further into the mosque, potentially saving dozens of lives. The attack has reignited debate over Islamophobia and the language used by authorities and political leaders following violence targeting Muslims. US President Donald Trump called the incident “terrible” but did not publicly refer to Muslims, Islamophobia, or terrorism. Police described the shooting as an “active shooter incident” and referred to the victims as “deceased,” drawing criticism online from those who argued the language downplayed the severity of the attack. Far-right troll Laura Loomer also faced backlash after posting inflammatory remarks about Muslims following the shooting. Muslim advocates say the tragedy reflects a wider climate of anti-Muslim hostility that has become increasingly normalised across Western societies.

The Muslim Security Guard Who Was Killed Protecting Others Amin Abdullah arrived at the Islamic Centre of San Diego on Monday morning, as he did every other day, taking his post at the entrance to the largest mosque in San Diego County. By midday, he was murdered. Authorities say the security guard was killed after two armed teenagers opened fire outside the complex, and that his actions in the moments before his death almost certainly prevented a far greater loss of life. San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl confirmed at a press conference Monday that Abdullah played a "pivotal role" in limiting the casualties during the attack. While investigators have not released a detailed account of exactly what occurred in those opening moments, the implication was clear. The gunmen did not reach the school inside, and the children were not harmed. Abdullah was found among the three men killed outside the mosque. A man who knew Abdullah and spoke to local media in the hours after the attack described him as someone who treated every person who came through those doors with warmth and professionalism. "He was a very nice person, having a smile with everybody," he said. "Every time you come to the centre, he greeted you and welcomed you." He described Abdullah as "very energetic, very strong, very professional," a consistent and dedicated presence at the centre who was known to support staff, worshippers and children alike.

Three Men Killed in Terrorist Attack on San Diego Mosque Two teenage gunmen opened fire outside the Islamic Centre of San Diego on Monday morning, killing three men in what police are investigating as a hate crime. The victims, found outside the mosque complex, included a security guard who authorities say played a pivotal role in preventing further casualties. The two suspects, aged 17 and 19, were found dead blocks away from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds. A suicide note containing writings about racial pride was found, and hate speech was scrawled on one of the weapons. All children at the school inside the complex were evacuated safely.

This weekend in Gaza, Israeli strikes hit an aid kitchen killing 3, and a residential building killing 7 and wounding 20, despite a ceasefire agreement in place since October 10, 2025. Since the ceasefire began, at least 857 Palestinians have been killed and 2,486 wounded, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. In Lebanon, 18 people were killed and 124 wounded over the weekend, including three paramedics, despite a US-brokered ceasefire in place since April 16, 2026. Lebanon's Health Ministry reports at least 2,969 killed and 9,112 wounded since March 2nd alone.

Israel Extended its Death Penalty Law to Palestinians in the occupied West Bank Israel has extended its death penalty law to the occupied West Bank through a military order signed by IDF Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth, marking a significant escalation in how Palestinian lives are governed under Israeli military rule. The order mandates that military courts, which have exclusive jurisdiction over Palestinians in the West Bank, apply the death penalty as the default sentence for any killing classified as a terrorist act aimed at "denying the existence of the State of Israel." Executions must be carried out within 90 days of a final ruling, with severely restricted rights to appeal, legal representation, and family visits. Critics say the framing of the law reveals its discriminatory intent. Because Israeli settlers in the same territory are tried in civil courts, not military ones, and the "denying the existence of the State of Israel" clause effectively singles out Palestinians alone. No equivalent threshold exists for Israeli settler violence against Palestinians, which has surged in recent years with minimal prosecution. Human Rights Watch put it plainly: this law was built to kill Palestinians faster, and with less scrutiny.

Spanish actor Javier Bardem says speaking out on Gaza has not harmed his career, revealing in a recent interview that he is receiving “more work than ever” despite his outspoken support for Palestine. Speaking during the Cannes Film Festival, Bardem said “the narrative is changing” within the film industry, suggesting that more actors, directors and creatives are becoming willing to publicly criticise Israel’s actions in Gaza. Bardem has been one of the most vocal Hollywood figures advocating for Palestinians throughout the war, repeatedly calling for a ceasefire and condemning the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. While some actors and public figures have faced backlash over pro-Palestine comments, Bardem dismissed fears of being sidelined in the industry, saying his experience has instead shown growing support for those willing to speak publicly on the issue.

Newly obtained documents reveal Australian officials secretly met with Britain's military censors to explore a system designed to suppress journalism before it reaches the public. Seven government departments attended the discussions. None publicly objected. Supporters argue systems like this protect legitimate national security interests, like troop movements, intelligence operations and sensitive military capabilities. Critics warn that it is an easy way to silence the exposure of misconduct. The D-Notice system, which began in the UK, was reportedly used in political scandals, state misconduct and intelligence controversies. One British official told Australian representatives that public interest plays no role in the issuing of D-Notices. A D-Notice is an advisory asking journalists not to publish certain information. In Britain, 90% of media comply. The D-Notice system allows pressure to be applied to journalists quietly, no formal bans, no police raids. Stories like the Afghan Files, which exposed war crimes by Australian forces, may never have reached the public, and would never have required journalists to be raided.
