There is a serious and growing concern of population decline around the globe where the TFR -Total Fertility Rate (average children per woman)in most countries is below the average 2.1. The lowest is in South Korea at ~0.7 and highest being Africa at ~4. So choosing to have more kids perhaps could be treated as a welcome decision if we look at it that way.

Why do a few well educated Indians abroad have 3 kids??
3 kids one after the other, and not just an older child and younger twins.
I already know 4 families with 3 kids each..... And none of them are filthy rich, they just went abroad via the usual channels and earning just like loads others. And it's nothing to do with wanting a male child. Infact all 4 families have sons as their first child. The couples are currently in their 40s and kids are into their teenage years.
What is the secret that these people are privy to and that we don't know in India, that makes them want to have 3 kids?
Here, in India, even well educated, well earning people don't want to have kids at all or don't want to have a second kid.
All I can think is that they wanted a home filled with kids....
Loads of well educated Caucasians voluntarily have more than 2 kids abroad.

@sciencegirl Survival here is a natural phenomenon. Burden is a human insinuated abstract meaning. The former is real. The later is made up. The tree never thinks or feels that it’s struggling. It just is.

@Nithya_Shrii To realise that seeking the purpose of life is a creation of an abstract social/cultural system- and that it has no bearing in the face of truth, including this question and this response.

AI employment doomerism is rooted in the socialist fallacy of lump of labor. It is wrong now for the same reason it’s always been wrong. More people really should try to learn about this. The AI will teach you about it if you ask!

It’s easy to dunk on Geoffrey Hinton for his 2016 declaration that it was “completely obvious” that radiologists would have no jobs within 5 years, while in fact, the number of radiologists has grown. But this prediction was more than a simple mistake. It’s a synedoche for the entire discourse of AI timelines and doom.

@dogeofficialceo Sanity has been lost the moment human animals became self conscious.

@123skely Animals are only interested in survival (food/security) and procreation. If animals feel there is no threat for their survival from a particular human they won’t attack. (By the way - humans are also animals. But we just forgot and dressed up, and feel scared most of the times)

I think the need for a purpose of life is a phenomenon created by the social system. It is just a concept. A dog or a parrot doesn’t have any grand purpose other than what nature wants it to be. But humans think or have been made to think that we are superior to other beings. We are no different from any other being in our natural tendencies - to survive, and to find ways to continue our genetic lineage (progeny).
At the core level of nature/universal existence - there is no psychological purpose to human life.
At a social level- to feel good/ to avoid boredom/ to feel validated/ to be curious/ to be adventurous, etc- having/finding a purpose might help.
But having/finding the purpose has no advantage over not having/ not finding the purpose in the face of of existence itself.
English

Do we all need a purpose in life?
Can we live without a purpose? Yes, ofcourse we can....
Do people who have figured out their life's purpose have lesser incidence of boredom or depression or addictions to vices ? In my opinion - Yes...
Are they happier than the first group? You can answer this yourself....
Do people whose life's purpose is something more profound like helping others, diving deeper spiritually, protecting environment, helping other creatures - feel more content and peaceful and happy than people whose life's purpose is purely materialistic ???
Many questions....but definitely worth pondering on....

@priety_preets I think it’s an accident that ‘we’ are here or there at all.
English

@Rainmaker1973 There is no way for us to perceive the present though. The same abstract operating system that perceives world also perceives present in an abstract way. The more we aim to perceive the present the more it eludes. If there is any entity that is timeless then that’s not us.
