We are developing a report about the experiences of survivors of domestic abuse. Our Own Words survey 2026 closes on the 31st March 2026 and the report will be published in April. We need to hear from another 300 men and women to reach our target of 1000 voices. If you can see this post please share. @NevilleSouthall @Reallisariley @ManKindInit @paullavellefoun @womensaid @RefugeCharity @GalopUK ourownwords.net

Justice must remain rooted in the people it is meant to serve. Accountability is how we keep it there. This quote from @charlottschreu captures the moment in the justice reform debate - systems must stay focused on the people they’re meant to protect.

Why the proposed reform to the sex-offender name-change loophole won’t fully work — and why we need Della’s Law. 🧵

Charlotte Nichols MP spoke so well about her rape She waited 1088 days in a queue for a jury, behind many lesser cases in which the defendant had demanded jury trial. The Jury acquitted her attacker She sued him & a Judge, on his own, believed her & gave her damages

Progress being made in the HoL with Baroness Brinton bringing an amendment in which would give victims access to the judges summing up which subsequently passed the vote. The information is important for the understanding, recovery or to hold people to account. @VictimsComm

A powerful piece by Morwenna. Whatever the reform debate brings, the reality survivors face - years of delay and uncertainty - cannot be ignored. Voices like this matter in shaping what justice looks like. #Echobox=1773274123" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">thetimes.com/uk/law/article…

Real progress last night as peers returned to the Victims and Courts Bill for Report Stage. Good debate and some significant changes were agreed on amendments I’ve backed. I hope the government now reflects and listens. Read more 🔽 victimscommissioner.org.uk/news/victims-a…

During the second reading of the Courts and Tribunals Bill, @DavidLammy spoke about the need for victims to be better represented in our justice system, and even named our founder, along with other victim-survivors crucial to our campaign, in his remarks. Real progress.

Sitting in the gallery yesterday was a fascinating experience. Hearing different perspectives across the jury trial debate - and many female MPs sharing not only their constituents’ experiences but their own - was incredibly powerful. Moments like this remind us why voices and lived experience matter in shaping justice. There should be no question that reform is needed in our justice system. It always gives me pause when I hear arguments about holding onto 800-year traditions as if that alone is reason enough not to change. Every other part of society has modernised - technology, healthcare, education - yet justice is too often expected to stand still. The world is a very different place now. If the system is to retain - or perhaps regain - trust and legitimacy, it has to evolve. Reform should not be about weakening justice, but strengthening it: ensuring it is fit for the future and better balanced for everyone involved, including both victims/complainants and defendants.

Today we go back to court to have the ludicrous charges formally dropped against my daughter by my abusive rapist ex .. because she dared five evidence in court against him. It’s been a tough year of staying strong as a family and hoping Simone would eventually see sense….
