As a journalist, I look at these two statements and think: what really happened here? @ni_wrn says an agreement was reached, that the judge congratulated both parties and that Féile agreed to discuss its potential participation in future festival events. Féile emphasises that the original event will not be reinstated and that the proceedings have ended. Meanwhile, Belfast Telegraph journalist Allison Morris appears to be using the outcome to justify her recent negative characterisation of the event - and those supporting it. But a negotiated agreement is not a court ruling - and does not mean the judge endorsed Morris’s version of events. If WRN really represents the “toxic ideology” Morris described, why has Féile agreed to explore its participation in future events? And why isn’t Morris asking what brought both sides to an agreement, what each side secured and what the judge actually decided - if anything? Or does she know something the rest of us don’t?

@nic_iosa Incorrect of course. WRN withdrew. Most likely on legal advice having finally got someone with local legal knowledge

Today is my birthday. This isn't a cry out for b/day wishes as I didn't get one card 😆, it's low key amazement I'm still alive and that lI was never warned about the crushing loneliness of being a grown up. It kinda sucks.

Today's statement from Féile an Phobail is somewhat misleading one might say. Facts are important. The legal challenge against Féile an Phobail has been withdrawn after the Féile an Phobail organisers and the Women's Rights Network Northern Ireland (WRN NI) reached a negotiated out-of-court settlement just before today's High Court hearing was set to begin. As the case was settled by mutual agreement, the High Court did not have to issue a formal judicial ruling. The ultimate test of this agreement will be how it plays out in practice. Time will tell how sincere the commitment was and how true Féile an Phobail are to their word regarding future inclusion. #Féile2026 #WomensRightsNetwork #Aontú

@ladydatadoc @jan_murray @ni_wrn I mean thats nonsense. You people keep moving goalposts every time to lose to explain how you didnt lose. This is NI and Feile have every legal right not to platform any group. WRN withdrew as it was they who didnt have case

Actually this (my business view of legal statements over 51 yrs) is a very typical write up for an organization that was told to figure out how to get to some agreement on next steps to back down to avoid a high degree of legal risk and let things cool down a bit. NIWRN has lots of potential fire power depending on the future negotiations and what actions Fiele takes.

@jan_murray @ni_wrn My assumption is the lawyers (w judge) told Feile that they were in for a rough ride and NIWRN are holding their fire power for the future.

It's simple they withdrew their claim. Why we don't know, but we know it isn't because they got their original slot at the festive reinstated because they didn't.
