I was born and grew up in Israel, not Jewish, and never expelled at gunpoint by Israeli authorities. The only ones who ever threatened to expel or kill me with guns were Palestinian jihadists and their apologists.

I have left the SDLP with immediate effect. My focus will remain on the ground in my community, representing the people of West Belfast. For clarity, I was not at the hastily arranged Belfast City Council meeting this week - contrary to some posts directed at me. I was dealing with an emerging issue in the community and therefore did not have the opportunity to vote against the DUP motion - which I would have done. Anyone suggesting otherwise is simply trying to score cheap political points. As someone from West Belfast, I know the Bobby Sands statue in Twinbrook holds real significance for people in our community and beyond. People should be entitled to remember him in this way, and I fully support that. Shame on the DUP and others for turning this into a political stunt. My focus remains, as always - on the people of my community. If anyone would like to engage further on this directly, you know where I am.

Amal Khalil was a friend to me and many others having worked in the field since the 2006 war. This is what made her so dangerous, with I$rael fearing a camera and a pen more than a Hezb0llah fighter. Her body wasn’t “found under the rubble” as though it had been mysteriously placed there. I$rael targeted a car in front of her, when she sheltered in a building it was struck collapsing it, then the emergency operations were delayed for at least 7 hours as ambulances and civil defence workers were fired on. This was a deliberate assassination and a war crime. But try as they might they will never stop journalists here from reporting the truth.

The recent attacks targeting Jewish communities are appalling.
