the problem with AI isn't just that it's ugly and lazy, it's indicative of a culture uncaring about everything. you have to care about something. you have to care about what you're putting out in the world. you have to make effort somewhere so people can perceive it.

@chicken_henny Did a whole module on the importance of illustrations in children's books specifically. I can still vaguely recall some art from books I saw as an INFANT. They stick with me like dreams with the stories they told. What are kid's these days going to dream of??

Gen Ai has robbed our children of so much inspiring art. I work in education and it’s infected all the decorations, all the slideshow presentations, all the reels the students watch on their phones or chromebooks, even some of the assignments are ai generated.

@Sheepinacart @chicken_henny The ethics of commissioning vs using AI is smthing else entirely imo. Baseline: Child imagery recall is a lot stronger than we think. Images, illustrations, posters in a classroom, can stick in our memory for ages. There must be some meaning in recalling an illustration vs AI.

@chicken_henny I agree it looks bad, but the retcon here is pretending an artist would have been commissioned before it was AI slop. They never did that, you'd have gotten the same text/logo on a stock photo, possible passed via a cartoonify filter.

@RANK10YGO I love theRadBrad. He's like a dad. But he's always mass produced his videos, not in a bad way, but in a way that's dubious about how much care he puts into each one. Him using AI on every thumbnail reinforces this. But no one does playthroughs like him so...

And if someone in the comments mentions being disappointed by the AI usage they get drowned out by 30 replies going "who cares bro" which is why it keeps happening
