@DJSnM @thenewarea51 Remember also not all "AI" is generative AI. There are fixed trained models that are highly effective noise filtering ect that have been used for years now, and can't "hallucinate". But also yes, it likely could be done 30 years ago, it'd just take a lot more human labor.

@thenewarea51 It doesn't need AI, I could have done this reconstruction 30 years ago.

@NikWestinghouse @Strangeland_Elf Reheating something prepared by the many dozen or even hundreds is called SCALE. This applies even to fairly fancy dining.. but its most obvious as the fact there is a que for McDonalds drive through most of the workday.

@Sheepinacart @Strangeland_Elf Right, but that would only work for cafeterias. Restaurants have little scale. For each person who orders, they have to individually microwave each Tyson bag

@DiaspoidDoomer @HOLYFIRE_ Thats because gold isn't in any way, shape or form a representation of a constant value, its a speculation asset that mirrors wealth. There is also half as much gold per person now as 1945, and thus a given weight would buy you more of anything but housing for every year since.

@HOLYFIRE_ To be really frank if we adjusted minimum wage to gold, minimum wage should be $62 per hour.

@cafreiman The retaliative size and position in the market of the cheeseburger has also changed. The Big Mac is about the same number of hours, with price rise more than inflation. Ultimately its housing not fast food thats causing cost of living pressure, but McDonalds has NOT come down.

@i2cjak Does this mean its bad? Not at all, it could easily take like a third of the market, where material is thin and its good surface quality with less staff training matters more than those drawbacks. But there are also even larger safety ramifications of cheaper laser machines.

@i2cjak -Limited penetration (machine wattage is limited by max power per pre-focus area before blooming, not just cost) means it mostly won't replace tig. -Requiring perfect fitup and not filling gaps means it won't replace mig. -Not working in wind/rain means it won't replace stick.

so there are just zero downsides to laser welding right? It’s better in every way?

@_aboihasnoname I do not understand peoples issue with the normal plastic vacuum packs. Even if you freeze and thaw them they don't fail, and if you use at least a third of a pack, you have enough spare space to fold and clip it closed. What are you all doing with it to have frustration?

@aragon1500 @jeanpaulblartre Its kinda funny the associations people have on words. If you stop saying "Roman" and start saying "Italians" instantly people stop thinking some soldier in a barracks and think of the extended family homes and women cooking pasta, as they have since 400 BCE.

@aragon1500 @jeanpaulblartre That example isn't correct though. Roman population was where nothing like as urbanized as it is today, and even guest houses in the city itself mostly had cook fires. Poorer Romans mostly cooked at home, there was no industrialization related factor of change.

This is actually key: the obsession with "cooking your own meals" is envisioned by Americans as an exercise in frugality but is in fact an expression of the excess of having a kitchen in every household
𝕙𝕠𝕡𝕖𝕗𝕦𝕝 𝕒𝕓𝕒𝕟𝕕𝕠𝕟@OstavNadezhdu

in case you're curious, many houses did not have ovens or even cooking braziers (plenty did though). lunch was a short, workday meal, and dinner was ideally a social affair, either at a restaurant or a tavern or simply a friend's place. this is what I gather, anyway

@BowtiedCappy Smokes where crazy cheap originally. Like literally the same as a pack of gum, less than a can of coke. A black coffee and a cigarette on break time was actually frugal vs a snack, and made you not feel hungry just the same, but obviously wasn't really a healthy choice.

Seeing a lot of food frugality discourse here. Which, I agree with - I cook most of my food, barely eat out. And I do think its absurd that Zoomies and Millenials drop so much money and DoorDash and shit. That said..... I'm having trouble squaring something. How do we reconcile out 90's parent food frugality (baloney sandwiches, eat out like 5 times year, not even McDonald's), with the fact it was so common as to be a media trope that Boomer/Silent Gen dads would go to the bar every day after work? And if they were bored on the weekend? AND smoke a pack a day? Is this one of those things where the prices just aren't comparable due to various forms of inflation and deflation? Like takeout food has decreased in real terms, while alchohol and smokes have exponentially gotten more expensive? Like today ,you would have to be RICH to be able to drink 5-10 beers a day after work at a bar and smoke a pack a day

@ptrkbrn Lets be fair, not the concept is ancient, the term "bucket list" was just shorter than previous terms for it, so grew in popularity. Same as umami is a term now widely used by western chefs in the last couple of decades, but the concept is ancient, with onion and fish sauce added

@That_Acc0unt The LTD was literally just a Giha with V8 engine, sunroof and a couple trim panels. The Giha already came with the turbo barra as an option, your just undoing the rare trim package to be left with a normal BF Falcon Giha, but with sunroof.

@SophiaNarwitz The funny thing is these aren't even plastic beads. They where just powder balls insoluble in the soap, if you added water and shook the container hard it'd all dissolve. Hence why it didn't block up pump pots, or leave sediment in drains. It was just a marketing fad that passed.

@AlHendiify Not remotely. Even a marathon isn't far enough to beat out quadrupeds purely because of extra efficiency. A horse or dog will still outpace a person. Its also not uniquely, with Ostrich, Emu, Road Runner, Kangaroo ect. Without even noting how easily a bird flies the same distance

@MechanicalMoshu Also check for OBD2 codes, this can be done free many places, or you can get a tool for not much. This can sometimes tell you exactly whats wrong... other times its useless, but you don't loose much by asking the ECU before you spend money swapping random parts.

@MechanicalMoshu Sounds like the MAP sensor issue if its only before its warmed up use sensor in exhaust, they don't love having oil on them, so discolored air-cleaner could be indicative. Get a new paper aircleaner, and spray sensor with a can of cleaner. Also unplug and replug its connector.

Ok I'm kinda stumped, the Jeep is idling rough, it's not misfiring but it's just shaking and rough, motor mounts are good, haven't checked the spark plugs yet, throttle body has some crud, and if I remove the intake so it's drawing in directly from the throttle body it runs fine

@AtomCatZeke @bloodst0rm__ Its clever because its a double meaning, one of which is technically not a 4th wall break. If you where to go on holiday to Mexico tomorrow, you wouldn't aiming to acquire any specific item or skill, you'd have gone "for the experience". But yes of course also as gamers, XP.

@Versuhtyle I've personally desired to spend most of my break rushing to buy food from further away, and barely get to eat it. I'm going to be sitting down with packed lunch... but the lack of availability of affordable home style meals from diners is a fairly new issue.
