I see a lot of similarities between The Boys and South Park in how their obsession with Trump ultimately damaged the quality of the shows themselves. Instead of clever satire, subtle parallels, or genuinely well-written social commentary, they gradually devolved into full-blown Trump Derangement Syndrome where everything becomes filtered through “how do we mock Trump or the right this week?” At a certain point, characters stop feeling like actual characters and just become political stand-ins. Homelander increasingly feels less like a uniquely written villain and more like a direct Trump analogue, and once that happens the writing starts losing originality, nuance, and unpredictability. The satire becomes lazy because it’s no longer building its own world, it’s just reacting to current headlines. That’s the biggest problem with modern political satire: instead of creating timeless stories with layered commentary, writers become so consumed by contemporary politics that it overtakes the plot, the humor, and even the characters themselves. The jokes stop being clever observations and become repetitive ideological venting. And it’s not just these shows either. So many modern movies and TV series have declined because writers increasingly prioritize political ideology and current-day messaging over storytelling, character development, world-building, or originality. Audiences can tell when a story exists naturally versus when it feels engineered around pushing a viewpoint or scoring political points. South Park used to parody everyone equally with sharp writing and absurdity. The Boys initially balanced satire with strong storytelling and genuinely compelling characters. But once creators become ideologically fixated, the satire often stops feeling authentic and starts feeling like a lecture, and that usually comes at the expense of the story itself.

Total GOP primary turnout nearly doubled in an off-year race. Money, Trump, and pro-Israel can’t explain it alone. Or maybe it can. But a 351% challenger surge is not normal. A couple in California spent five months intentionally luring bike thieves into their front yard with an unlocked bicycle, beating them with aluminum baseball bats, and posting the videos online. Corey Cornutt, 25, and Savannah Grillot, 29, of Visalia were arrested in January 2020 on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy, in connection with at least four beatings between July and November 2019. Police said the couple planted a bicycle in the front yard unsecured and waited. Once someone tried to steal it, both rushed out and assaulted them with a baseball bat. The videos they posted made the prosecution straightforward. A neighbour told reporters there would be blood on the street the next day after each incident, and had warned the couple: "Maybe it's not the best idea you're kind of bringing people into the neighbourhood that might not be here otherwise." They ignored her and continued. In each case the victims received various non-life-threatening injuries. The couple documented their own crimes in enough detail to guarantee their arrest.

Trump’s H-1B approval rate for his second term is higher than his first term and Obama’s, tying Biden’s during his first year. At the current rate of approvals and pace of applications, Trump could end up approving more H-1B visa applications than in his first term and maybe more than Biden. Trump’s restrictions on H-1B visas, notably the $100k new application fee, only went into effect in late September of 2025. The fee doesn’t apply to any visa holder already in the US, and the visa still allows for dependents to be sponsored and migrate with them. A student visa holder can hypothetically transition to H-1B status without the fee and then sponsor main dependents. As a note, Trump has reduced the number of approved student visas and other visas broadly, with reviews of visa applications.
