Ronald Reagan, the first U.S. president to be divorced, had a marriage to actress Jane Wyman that ended at her initiative. Wyman, known for her Hollywood persona, had a history of quick marriages and even quicker divorces. But Reagan found true love with Nancy. Their 52-year marriage was a model of harmony and commitment. In 1971, while Governor of California, Reagan couldn’t attend his son Michael’s wedding, so he wrote him a heartfelt letter: “Dear Mike, You’ve probably heard plenty of jokes from the ‘unhappily married’ and the cynics. But let me offer another perspective: you’re entering the most important relationship in life. It will be what you make it. Some men think they prove their masculinity by living out the locker-room stories thinking ‘what a wife doesn’t know won’t hurt her.’ The truth is, a wife always knows. And when she does, something magical fades. Far too many men who complain about marriage are actually more responsible for the destruction of their relationships than their wives. You get back what you put in. If you give only half, you’ll get half back. There will be times when you look at another woman, remembering the old days. But let me tell you this: proving your masculinity by staying with one woman for life takes strength. Anyone can cheat. But it takes real strength to remain charming and loved by the woman who has seen you at your worst. If you truly love her, you’ll never make her doubt you. You’ll never want another woman to give your wife that ‘secret smile’ the one that says she was once ‘the other one.’ Mike, you know what an unhappy home can do. Now you have the chance to do things the right way. There’s no greater joy than knowing someone is waiting for you at home. With love, Dad P.S. Say ‘I love you’ every day.” Beautiful words from a loving father, and from a man who understood the value of love, family, and friendship. Reagan made sure his wife always waited for the sound of his footsteps at the door. He didn’t just talk about commitment he lived it. Nancy, a wise and devoted woman, fully embraced her role as First Lady not just of America, but of her husband. And Reagan, known for his tough political persona, never forgot that his most important role was as a devoted husband and father. #archaeohistories

Taiwan’s president has just arrived in Taiwan, who made a short speech at the airport. “"The Earth is round. The world belongs to everyone. Taiwan belongs to the world. The people of Taiwan are citizens of the world. Taiwanese people have the right to reach out to the world. We will not back down due to suppression. On the contrary, the peace-and-freedom-loving people of Taiwan will continue to uphold the principles of public interest and rationality. With a steady and responsible attitude, we will offer greater participation and contributions on the global stage. We are also willing to work together with people in every corner of the world for a better future, based on the foundation of mutual benefit and assistance.”

The real question this policy creates: who inside the government is actually qualified to evaluate a frontier cyber-capability model? CISA and NSA have the technical depth. Most of the executive branch doesn't. Government review means very different things depending on which agency is in the room.

Nytimes: The White House is considering a government review process for major AI models before public release. The proposed review would not necessarily block releases, but it could give the U.S. government early access to test advanced models before the public gets them. The likely focus is cyber-capability, meaning whether a model can help discover, exploit, or chain software vulnerabilities at a level that changes real-world security risk. This is a major policy reversal because the same administration had rolled back Biden-era reporting rules for powerful AI systems and argued that heavy regulation could slow U.S. progress against China. The trigger was Anthropic’s Mythos model, which the company says is unusually strong at finding software security flaws and too risky to release widely. A model like this can scan code, identify weak points, and suggest attack paths much faster than a normal human security team. That makes it useful for defense agencies, but it also raises the fear that a public release could help attackers find bugs in banks, government systems, cloud tools, and critical infrastructure. --- nytimes. com/2026/05/04/technology/trump-ai-models.html

Elon Musk on orbital propellant transfer for Mars missions: — Orbital refilling is essential for enabling missions to Mars and the Moon — It’s similar to aerial refueling, but done in Earth orbit between two Starships — This has never been done before, but is technically feasible — One Starship will transfer liquid oxygen and fuel to another; ~80% of the mass will be oxygen — A fully loaded Starship with payload is launched first, followed by multiple refueling Starships — Once refueled, the rocket can begin its journey to Mars or the Moon

A photograph of an original handwritten manuscript page by the Russian chemist Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev (1834–1907), dated 18 February 1869 (written as “18 II 69” in the bottom-left corner). This single page is therefore one of the most important documents in the history of chemistry; it marks the birth of the modern periodic table that still hangs in every chemistry classroom today (though today’s version is ordered by atomic number rather than atomic weight).
