🚀 Introducing Zed v0.151!
Project search is now up to 10x faster and initial matching results are streamed more quickly.
Check out @thorstenball's video overview of the performance improvements here:

Up to 10x faster! I *had* to record a demo of the project search improvements we landed.

@matthew_d_green Damn, I was wondering why a random shady dude took apart my yubikey and hooked up an oscilloscope to it! Definitely didn't ring any bells!!!!! /s

Finally, a practical cryptographic side channel attack “in the wild”! Sort of. ninjalab.io/eucleak/

@TSM_Albralelie Agreed.
On the supported well/taken care of, eh, CS2 proved that it's not really the case though. The game has been kinda dumpster fire-y regarding cheating, bots, etc. (I mean, getting banned because your counterstrafe is "too good it must be a macro" is dubious)
English

@OtaK_ I'd say more people believe it'll be successful because of that, not so much it'll be good. Valve being behind it does 100% get more people interested and willing to give it a shot though. I just believe it'll be supported well/taken care of bc valve is behind it.

Watching this video genuinely hurt my head. He basically reads valves wiki page and then effectively just says he doesnt like the game bc its a moba and is hard. Literally every piece of criticism he made was invalidated by playing the game for more than 2 hours if you have moba exp.
David@frozenfroh
this video aged HORRIBLY (who saw it coming...)

@catalinmpit Cost of living + no state safeguards (health etc) + hype bullshit job (ie « AI » or blockchain).
That’s how you get those and even much higher.

My European mind can’t comprehend these salaries for a software engineer.

@_minustempo Orange, only for the sake of your neck. Looking up isn't good long-term.
English

@mortenjust An important thing is that you absolutely cannot determine video quality impact on stills. It’s in the intermediate frames & movement that compression hits the hardest.
English

@bitplane @soychotic That's no insight, you're just blabbering nonsense thinking p2p as conceived around blockchain would yield anything of value
English

@OtaK_ @soychotic Imagine being so left of mid that you can't tell a new insight from autocomplete in the middle of distribution.
English

@ThePrimeagen I also think there’s wrong expectations and a whole lot of misleading. There’s absolutely zero chance any LLM is able to spit out production quality application code (ie bug/cve free) while being trained on OSS code.
For prototyping it’s prolly fine but you’ll need to rewrite
English

We do need to build a P2P infrastructure.
The corporate domination we suffer from today is directly caused by the client/server model. If software was P2P and protocol based then you'd only need 2 people online to run your app. If it's a server, the dev needs to run it as a proxy for users, and if nobody uses it they switch it off. When there's enough users it costs to support them, so they turn into a business and eventually sell out or go bust.
Either way the stock market owns all the apps and none of them are a public good. Even Wikipedia and archive.org need to run on donations of money not disk and compute, and they all risk corruption, collapse and becoming a gravy train.
P2P solves this. Pity that web3 apps almost always look like a shitcoin scam; money just corrupts. Maybe we need a reputation-based FoaF network? Dunno. But I think it's worth thinking about.
Tagging @doctorow in this idea, 'cause it's the first time I've wrote about it and he's got reach and might have similar ideas.
English

@SyntheticusAlt In many places in the US you kinda can’t tho. I tried as an european used to it and the only thing I got was tourista lmao
English

@yacineMTB Don’t care a single bit about the community. Anyway if it was about « communities » I wouldn’t be a software engineer as all of them have very iffy things about them. I’ll use the tools I want and contribute to the ecosystem rather than the community.
