I honestly never thought I would live to see the day when it was this culturally uncool to be a Democrat. As someone who has been socially ostracized for being a Republican my entire life, let me tell you, this is a brave new world out here...

@drjanaway I rail gainst this with CMHTS. "We're not a diagnostic team". What does that even mean? A diagnosis isn't important for everyone. But if its therepeutically important for a patient and/or their family, regardless of what type of diagnosis, we should be doing the bloody work.

It feels like they are stressed and frustrated and turning on us. I have spent my career protecting and looking out for and developing resident Doctors. They have also done this for me. Doctors shouldn't be turning on Nurses. We are their most obvious Ally.

Why does medical twitter hate Nurses? Is it because we are a profession in our own right and gone are the days of us being Doctors handmaidens? Is it because we are advancing our roles? I've never seen this out in practice but here it is rife. Is this how Doctors really feel?

@FunctionsZeta But like for like, in practice, this study shows that they are meeting and surpassing Doctors in this area. I'm out. You think you are being disrespectful to Nurses but it is truly just backfiring. Shame, I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt and everything.

@OurNats I'll respond to this, and that's all I'll say. Nursing standards are among the lowest for professional degrees. You only need Cs and below to get in. The nursing profession is notorious for bullying, indicating that many are low-quality candidates. The advanced courses and

So sad that this is the attitude from so much of medical twitter towards their nursing colleagues. As somebody who supported the strikes and always considered Resident Doctors a vital part of the MDT, this is shocking. At least we have the support of the public.
CopuimByDecree@FunctionsZeta

@OurNats @DrLukeCraddock No I haven't said anything about that. A nurse who has passed a relevant, rigorous course should be allowed to prescribe in their field. I want standards to be high, much higher than they are now considering how low the standards are to get into nursing in the first place.

“Very good nurse practitioners who are trained like doctors” I’m sure the ANPs at your local practice are amazing. However they are not trained like doctors.

@MurrayJohn2000 @DrLukeCraddock Now does this mean there are always fewer mistakes and EVERY nurse is better at taking medical histories and treating patients without need for unplanned follow up. Of course not. But just put some respect on your nursing colleagues. We protect our resident doctors ferociously.

@FunctionsZeta And am honestly kind of upset about the degrading way that you speak about my profession. Standards are not low. Quality of new talent is not low. I love how much in the real world it seems so much like we all have each other's back. Twitter brings out the absolute worst.

@FunctionsZeta Protecting newly qualified Doctors is a part of our job as Nurses. It's something that we, though I should really only say I as I don't want to speak for others, take really seriously. As serious as I would with a newly qualified Nurse. I've reflected on this........

@FunctionsZeta There was a study. It found that Nurses did so with a better standard of quality. I take no conclusions from this other than we may be able to take something from a Nurses education and career experience to improve a Doctors offer of education. I didn't do the study. Doctors did.

@OurNats This is such a sad and disappointing quote tweet. I'm out here encouraging higher standards for your profession and you take issue with that? Will you now make the same quote tweet where you sit there pretending nurses know more about medical histories than doctors or nah?

@FunctionsZeta @DrLukeCraddock So.... just to clarify, are we against anybody except a doctor prescribing medication? Because I think a Doctors role is so much more than that.

@OurNats @DrLukeCraddock What is the medical model? Are u suggesting lowering standards? I agree with you. Nurses are superior in the nursing profession. So what makes you come here and question a doctors ability to take a good medical history? Is it because they don't follow your incorrect algorithm?

@FunctionsZeta @DrLukeCraddock No, it's because there is a literal study attesting to it. I came here to suggest that perhaps we could learn something from Nurses to improve Doctors education. Taking histories and px medication is not simply a Doctors job. I had no idea that so many thought it was.

@OurNats @DrLukeCraddock This is called ignorance. A medical history at its core is a formula to narrow down ddxs for which only doctors have the intense training to do do. A nurse may use an algorithm but it is nothing but a shell of a real medical history. You can use socrates mindlessly if you want.

@FunctionsZeta @DrLukeCraddock Most of the MDT are simply trying to encourage an alternative to the very dominant medical model. This is good for everybody. It is an alternate issue but honestly, I find that is so. Nurses don't think they are medically superior. They are superior in their own profession.

@OurNats @DrLukeCraddock I'm not a doctor or a nurse just to be clear. But I'm sick of the MDT thinking they're somehow medically superior yet not ever having studied medicine.
