Shark Drags Pro Surfer Underwater Live On TV — He Fights Back and Survives! 🏄‍♂️ 🦈 One of the most insane moments in surfing history: Australian pro surfer Mick Fanning, three-time world champion, was attacked by a great white shark during the final of the J-Bay Open in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa. While sitting on his board waiting for a wave, Fanning suddenly felt something behind him. In an instant, the shark struck, knocking him off his board and thrashing violently. His leg rope got tangled with the shark, dragging him underwater. Fanning fought back instinctively, punching and kicking the shark, until his leash snapped. He then swam frantically toward safety, screaming for help as rescue jet skis raced in. Miraculously, he escaped completely unharmed, no bites, just a damaged board and a broken leash. The entire terrifying encounter was captured live on the World Surf League broadcast, with commentators in shock as a wave briefly blocked the view of the chaos. In his own words right after: “All of a sudden, I just had this instinct that something was behind me… I felt like I started getting pulled underwater. Then the shark came up and I was on my board and it was right there, thrashing around. I punched it in the back… To walk away from that, I’m just so stoked. I’m just tripping.” The rest of the competition was immediately cancelled for safety. Fanning later said the close call made him appreciate life even more. Pure survival instinct and insane luck.
