I never wanted to become political online. I’m a British, Irish and Israeli Jew. I married a Christian woman, built a life in Wales, and just wanted to quietly raise my family. But watching antisemitism become normalised, Jewish children targeted, memorials needing police protection and extremists openly intimidating Jews in British streets has changed something in me. Too many decent people stayed silent while hatred was rebranded as “activism”. I won’t anymore.

This is exactly the kind of short-sighted and contradictory policymaking that frustrates the public. Restrict domestic energy production while delaying tougher action on Russian oil sends a completely confused message economically, strategically and morally. Governments build social cohesion through competence, consistency and public confidence. When people lose faith in leadership, societies become more fragmented, tribal and angry. Britain needs pragmatic leadership again, not reactive policymaking driven by headlines and ideology.

'It gives Russia tens of millions, hundreds of millions, of dollars to continue this war.' Former Ukrainian Minister of Culture and Information Policy, Oleksandr Tkachenko airs his frustration with Labour delaying sanctions on Russian oil.

Radicalism grows when decent people stay silent. History has shown that repeatedly. Every community has extremists who should be challenged openly, whether they are Islamist radicals, sectarian activists or extremist politicians. The Ben Gvirs, Mohamed Hijabs and Zarah Sultanas of the world all thrive on division, outrage and grievance. If people refuse to challenge radicals within their own “side”, the rhetoric spreads, communities become more hostile, and everyone eventually pays the price.

𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒖𝒐𝒕: 𝑪𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒊𝒇𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒉 ——————— Lots of people have asked about Shavuot, so here’s a short explanation🪻✡️ Shavuot is one of those quieter Jewish festivals, It marks the moment when G-d gave the Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai, a turning point that shaped our story & values ever since. The name means “weeks”, because it falls seven weeks after Passover, at the end of the Omer count. In 2026, it begins at sundown on Thursday 21 May. In ancient times it was also a harvest festival, when the first fruits were brought to the Temple. Many people stay up late studying Torah, unlike the story that the Israelites slept in on the big day. Synagogues read the Ten Commandments aloud and the Book of Ruth is shared too. Ruth’s choice to join the Jewish people mirrors our own acceptance of the Torah. You will spot flowers & greenery everywhere, reminding everyone how Mount Sinai is said to have bloomed at that moment. Families enjoy plenty of dairy dishes. Think creamy cheesecake & delicate blintzes, sweet nods to the land of milk and honey. 🍯🐝 It is a day without work, filled with special prayers, festive meals and time with loved ones. No big dramatic rituals, just a gentle chance to pause and reconnect. At its heart, Shavuot reminds us that freedom was only the beginning. The real journey lies in choosing meaning, kindness and responsibility every single day. The giving happened once at Sinai, but the receiving continues for each of us. Whether you study late into the night or simply share a slice of cheesecake with family, may the holiday bring a quiet warmth & a reset. Chag Shavu'ot Sameach חג שבועות שמח

This is exactly why so many Jews — both in Israel and the diaspora — are deeply uncomfortable with Ben Gvir. We all know Jewish actions are scrutinised, magnified and often weaponised globally to fuel the next wave of misinformation, hatred or collective blame. Ben Gvir understands this perfectly. He simply doesn’t care. In many ways, he thrives on the hostility because it serves his own political agenda. He does not speak for all Israelis, nor for Jews globally. He is a radical. And radicals ultimately harm their own communities most of all.
Hen Mazzig@HenMazzig

Performative activism, meet performative justice. Ben Gvir just handed the flotilla exactly what they came for. A clip of a cruel Israeli minister to wave around. It doesn’t matter that they broke a naval blockade after repeated warnings. It doesn’t matter that Israel offered to deliver the symbolic “aid” on board to Gazans itself. The IDF did incredible job to stop them without provocations and arrange for their departure. But then Ben Gvir came along, the guy who didn’t serve a day in the army. Most people will only see this clip of a minister delighting in use of force and humiliation on camera. Ben Gvir and the flotilla deserve each other. Both perform justice. Both peddle hate. But neither Israelis nor Palestinians deserve either.

My favourite perfume was discontinued years ago. I nursed some empty bottles almost shoving them up my nose for the last drop of scent. I fell in love with the perfume, as it’s what my mother wore for years. My husband found me an unopened, still sealed bottle and gifted it me this morning! I was worried it may have gone off, but it hasn’t, produced sometime in the 1980’s & smells heavenly. I’m on crutches, sitting in the garden arranging flowers for tonight & smelling gorgeous. The perfume is called Joy by Jean Patou. It’s absolutely beautiful!

As Middle Eastern geopolitics increasingly impacts life in Britain — from university campuses and protests to rising antisemitism and anti-Muslim hatred — I think UK schools should introduce a balanced modern history module on the Middle East post-1945. Cover Israel’s formation, the Nakba, the Camp David and Abraham Accords, Iran’s revolution and proxy networks, the Intifadas, Gaza and the West Bank, October 7th and the wider regional conflicts. Teach it with nuance, context and students should engage with primary sources and documentary material from multiple perspectives — including footage from October 7th, survivor testimony, the Nova documentary, accounts from Palestinians living through war, and the wider historical context shaping both societies. Young people are currently forming opinions through TikTok slogans, activist clips and ideological echo chambers. That is dangerous. Better historical understanding and critical thinking would reduce radicalisation, tribalism and hatred far more effectively than simply shouting “oppressor vs oppressed” at each other.

His behaviour is atrocious and far below the standards Jews should expect from one another. He certainly does not represent me or many ordinary Israelis. This kind of conduct is divisive, damaging and completely unhelpful. Every society has radicals and extremists who should be called out openly, not excused because they’re seen as “our side”. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@JuliaHB1 Ordinary people worrying about borders, identity, affordability, social cohesion and national direction isn’t “extremism”. Dismissing those concerns as nationalism instead of addressing them is part of why trust in mainstream politics keeps collapsing.

I’m honoured to share that I’ve been awarded an MBE for services to Holocaust Education and Combatting Antisemitism. My recent production of The Merchant of Venice 1936—is driven by a commitment to Holocaust education and challenging antisemitism through storytelling. As well as bringing communities together through shared understanding. This recognition is deeply meaningful and I’m grateful to all who have supported this journey.

@adam_cannon @JewishChron @MayorofLondon The worrying part is how quickly this has become normalised. No community should feel pressured to hide its identity or change how it lives because authorities appear unwilling to confront intimidation consistently.

HS2 is expected to cost over a £100bn - meaning Wales is now losing out on £5.8 BILLION. 🤯 The people of Wales refuse to be treated as second-class passengers any longer. The UK Government must devolve rail to Wales and ensure fair funding for our communities. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

🚨PLAID BREAK FREE CHILDCARE PROMISE🚨 It's only been a fortnight, but Plaid are already breaking election promises. Backtracking on the free childcare pledge, Sioned Williams couldn't say how it'll be funded, admitting "we haven't started to plan out this work". Plaid lied.

The problem is we haven’t recognised the warning signs early. We’ve spent years normalising rhetoric, intimidation and dehumanisation that would never be tolerated against other minorities. By the time societies finally acknowledge the problem, the damage to trust and social cohesion is already deep.

The bigger issue is that many people increasingly feel politically homeless. Large parts of the political class — left and right — now seem culturally and economically detached from ordinary working people dealing with housing costs, energy bills, stagnant wages, eroding community cohesion and declining public services.

Britain increasingly feels like a country governed through short-term sticking plasters instead of long-term solutions. Energy insecurity, housing pressure, stagnant wages, weak growth, food inflation, failing infrastructure — and the answer is always another temporary intervention rather than addressing the root causes. You cannot regulate your way out of national decline.
