Proud to share my story on Good Morning Britain today. No child should be hissed at like a gas chamber or targeted for being Jewish

In the UK 🇬🇧, a Jewish schoolboy has fought to introduce a new class on 'contemporary antisemitism' in his school to challenge these views. This came after classmates hissed at him to replicate the sound of a gas chamber, as well as threatened to vandalise his house with swastikas. The result? Students understood the dangerous effects of antisemitism, even prompting some students to apologize to the schoolboy. While I am proud of this student for advocating to educate others, why must it be on him to initiate this? How many more attacks and hate crimes will it take to enact significant change? 🎥: Good Morning Britain

@AllyFogg just to clarify, i do agree that much more needs to be done to tackle all forms of hatred and education should be introduced about all hatred. my campaign is just focused on antisemitism because of my own experiences and the evidence of it working in my school.

I’m sure everything this lad says is true & I don’t really disagree with his proposal, but I think we might need to stop siloing the issues. There’s more antisemitism in schools, there’s more racism in schools, there’s more misogyny, more homophobia, more hatred of all kinds. >

Im so proud of my constituent Jonathan for his persistence in raising the need for greater action on tackling and educating about antisemitism. I raised this with the @JLC_uk this morning and am firmly committed to working with government to see progress in this area.

@GarySpedding @Change @alexsobel I have considered the Parliament petition website - just reluctant to move website when I have almost 40,000 signatures. I’ll ask Alex about that!

Your petition is with @Change - I'm wondering if you've considered lodging it with the Parliamentary petition scheme also? I'm also certain that @alexsobel would agree to lodge a Westminster Hall debate on the specific matter of mandatory antisemitism lessons in school and ask some Parliamentary Questions too.

I this young man, Jonathan Frisher, is absolutely right that education is the way forward in tackling antisemitism. I read the article he wrote for Jewish News where he describes having experienced antisemitic bullying, Nazi salutes, gas chamber 'jokes', and even threats. Much of the antisemitism that he has described is what can be referred to as casual day-to-day antisemitism that is shamefully normalised in British society. I have personally witnessed a multitude of antisemitic incidents over the years. Most of it is rhetoric such as associating Jews with money and greed, making Jew jokes about 'sneaky' goals in football or other sports, and calling people Jews if they're being 'stingy'. Even something as simple as someone preferring a meat free breakfast I've heard a cafe owner say 'you're not a Jew are you? Refusing good breakfast bacon.' In our schools children are finding inventive yet incredibly cruel ways to torment and bully one another... antisemitism is often commonplace. I think everyone needs to read what Jonathan Frisher has to say and then sign onto the petition he launched. jewishnews.co.uk/education-on-a…
