@PeteSchaad True, but let’s not confuse MLS fan interest with Messi. There are many @WhitecapsFC fans who were invested long before his marketing machine moved in. Nothing wrong with CPL but not all Canucks fans go to Giants games. A different standard.

@OzClay2 Which would speak beautifully to the nature of football “fandom” in this city. Is it about supporting a heritage club, or being associated with the Messi league?
The USL years (similar in scale to CPL) were very enjoyable and the club did well on all fronts.

I can also see how a globally ambitious club could view the Whitecaps opportunity as an ideal turnkey” solution to expand a global cooperation network.
No new stadium or training centre cost, the ability to offer their own academy graduates a pathway etc etc.

@FarhanLaljiTSN Agreed. Cannot understand the mindset of those who think shifting the Caps to CPL would be a plus. Lower quality football and I suspect most Caps STH won’t shift to CPL = less interest and less CDN development. This news is disturbing.

I’m admittedly new to this discussion. But this would be awful for the city to lose a tremendous asset and quite frankly a bigger loss for MLS to lose a market like Vancouver

The Whitecaps have zero assets. The training centre isn’t theirs and neither is the stadium. As much as I would love to see a more sophisticated group embrace Vancouver with a new direction, the reality points to relocation which would be cheaper than expansion.

@TheRealJJAdams A tad underwhelmed by the logo. It means nothing to most fans, with the only reference to VWFC noticed by staring at someone’s waist or breathing down their neck. Why not at least add the Caps name around the ball logo as per their promo image?
