@xTdellx @BanUnsweetTea Thankfully Georgia doesn't have a law like Washington or California for special taxes requiring a 60% vote to pass. Just needs to be over 50%
English

@BanUnsweetTea Wow, this is so fascinating. I’d be curious how this will perform today. I would assume it will be a lot closer to 50-50 but would expect it to still fail.

There was a huge region wide transit initiative in 2012. I worked on it while I was at the Chamber of Commerce and it went down in every county. Probably the biggest political event over the last 20 years no one talks about

The Puerto Rican Mogger@DanzW0rld
The fact that we have this and Marta still hasn't expanded an inch genuinely pisses me off
English

@nebula3lem123 Air force base 🙃 but still a pretty large employment area as many bases are. But yes green to Marietta is probably the single most important extension that should be built. I have it in google but need to add it to subway builder

English

Would you vote for me?
City of Atlanta council person
1. Limit tax breaks for all developments lacking 30% affordable housing units.
2. Data center ban within city limits.
3. Utilize Beltline TAD to add benches and restrooms.
4. Require MARTA to construct 10 miles of Beltline rail within 5 years using TAD money.
5. Completion BRT and North Ave BRT.
6. More city events with security measures in place.
7. Build at least 25,000 new affordable housing per year 2 years into my term.
8. Homeless shelters and programs.
9. Youth programs to train them for high-skill trades.
10. Close wealth inequality gap
All I could think of off the top of my head.
English

@aufc_ultra @joshuawx_ Too much development has made that tunnel impossible to use. Best option now would be to extend the line past bankhead to the northwest
English

@joshuawx_ Also arts center has a line ready to go northwest not sure why that wouldn’t be used over Lindbergh
English

The closer I look at this, the worse it gets.
Long, expensive tunnel portations. The airport area leaves too much up for interpretation. And the green line is too long and lacks many one-seat rides. And these are all too long for heavy rail

zach@ZachNagel7
We really could’ve had it all 😖
English

When we get transit on the ballot, we get straight RideCo slop
17 billion dollars for 0 rail miles of rail. And then have the audacity to say "There's no money for rail." And cherry on top, MARTA would have no part, and a private company would operate the whole thing

Joshua Wx@joshuawx_
This is what they really took from us
English

@barely_th3re @ATLAreaWx tbh I'd be ok with just extending Marta to truist park. Everything else could get away with a mix of LRT and regional rail
English

@ATLAreaWx yeah this map has some limited heavy rail expansion (Gold Line Norcross, Hapeville branch, and Blue Line to 285W), but the crazy long light rail is giving LA Metro's A line lol
English

Would be nice but hyper unrealistic. Also not expanding heavy rail & just replacing them with light rail is certainly a choice

@StopmeifImlying @moneybastard @JToc33 @EmmyWanKenobi There absolutely is no data that shows "wayward teens" are travelling on marta and then transferring to x number of local buses to cause trouble in your affluent neighborhood
English

@moneybastard @JToc33 @EmmyWanKenobi You know what's up. There's a belief that allowing young wayward teens from impoverished areas of Atlanta easy access to Milton would cause problems in Milton. I wonder if there's any data that would confirm or disconfirm this notion?
English

The anger I have towards the classists and racists that continue to vote this down grows every time I pay $40+ for an uber.
How are we supposed to be the “New York of the South” without a viable transit system?
zach@ZachNagel7
We really could’ve had it all 😖
English

@Kam7810 Utah was able to attract Adobe with the promise of extending light rail down there. And like beltline rail, all the bridges and infrastructure exist, but the state has been dragging its feet about it. I wrote about it

@wanderingdave It's a life changer. But the filters are stupid expensive
English

Genuine question. Why do they still blow up? Wasn't the original plan to recover these and tow them back to land? It would be a great backup/emergency landing option if these could successfully land in water safely.
Marcus House@MarcusHouse
Holy S#%^! 🤯
English

@wanderingdave @scottew Wow wish I thought about that. My dog is still acting funny with one of her legs from a fall 4 months ago
English

@AnalytiKroll @UPS These trucks equitably block car lanes as well on other streets. As long as they are quick about it, it's not that big of a deal. These folks have a tough job and need to be quick. Any bit of hassle/time savings I can empathize with
English

@barely_th3re Once the capital functions of the project are completed. Operational costs are moved to UTA
English

@barely_th3re A recent transplant from Utah ✋ a few years ago the state legislature mandated that UDOT be in charge of all capital "fixed guideway" transit projects. So far it has produced a noticeable shift in the agency and is delivering huge projects (FrontRunner 2X)
It can be done
English

"their mandate is not transit"
disagree. GDOT literally stands for the Georgia Department of TRANSPORTATION. we're in this predicament because GDOT (and the state at large) has refused to leverage modes of transportation other than single occupancy private vehicles.
David Hostetler@HydroFoundry
@byst I am not against MARTA expansion and bike lines. Disagree on GDOT being unserious. They are investing more and doing more than most states. Their mandate is not transit. If you want to improve the situation, publicly advocate for why it is a good idea without being a troll.
