@EconomPic @kylascan Thats what our housing policy has been de facto, hence all the interstate migration recently. In Charlotte, I know we have a shortage because all this new housing they built is occupied and not sitting empty. Prices come down or level off when you build in high demand areas

@mi_jim Captain obvious here. I think we all knew this so this is some level one thinking from the New York Fed.

@MalcadorSigil @stanfordNYC Doesnt line up in the timeline at all. Homes started getting expensive in 2020, way before surge of illegal immigration. There were a lot of pandemic factors that drove housing prices up.

@PCAminimums @stanfordNYC Since the Biden Administration’s opening of the borders alone, home prices have increased precipitously. That is directly attributable to increasing housing demand by millions of people. Supply and Demand doesn’t care that you want more immigrants, it doesn’t just stop.

@PCAminimums @stanfordNYC Nice. Also I can’t afford a home because prices have been raised by massively increased demand, and I’m being forced to pay higher taxes to pay for the welfare benefits used by groups of overwhelmingly non-productive immigrants. So the better question is, net benefits for whom?

@PCAminimums Not versus the counterfactual of guest workers, no. There's no reason we need to staple permanent status to employment for all work. It makes sense at the high end because workers who are globally competitive will demand it or go elsewhere.

@bennyjohnson This is just blood and soil nationalism. People migrating illegally to do construction and care work isnt civilizational suicide. Repugnant

Stephen Miller just Issued The Greatest On-Air TAKEDOWN of Birthright Citizenship You Will EVER See “If your ruling requires you to SUICIDE your civilization, your reading of the Constitution is wrong.” “This is absolutely a deep knife wound in the heart of the American republic.” “There is no possible reading of the 14th Amendment that applies to foreigners with foreign loyalties, foreign citizenship, foreign obligations, foreign everything.” 🔥🔥🔥

This whole list is absolute BONKERS. But these segments in particular are just next level: "5) Require sterilization of all foreign visitors prior to entry. 6) Dissolution of the Union. A nation which can’t even restrict who gets to be a citizen isn’t a nation." It is absolutely bizarre that these people believe that the continued application of a rule that has existed for generation after generation -- as we've grown to the most powerful and prosperous free nation in world history -- is somehow the root of our national demise and so clearly wrong that we need to end the union. Just wild.

Several ways forward here given the choice of Roberts/Barrett to nullify the 14th Amendment and extra-constitutionally replace it with their own language: 1) Nullification. States issue birth certificates, and they can just stop issuing them to non-citizens. Roberts/Barrett can deal with the fallout and litigate each birth individually. 2) Pack the court. If Robert wants to be a politician who writes laws instead of a judge, then he can fight with 10 more unelected legislators in robes. 3) Deny entry to all pregnant foreigners. 4) Deny entry to all female foreigners. 5) Require sterilization of all foreign visitors prior to entry. 6) Dissolution of the Union. A nation which can’t even restrict who gets to be a citizen isn’t a nation. 7) Amend the Constitution. This is pointless, because once a judge decides he can rewrite the Constitution at will (as Roberts and Barrett did today), the actual text is meaningless. But this is what most GOP politicians gravitate towards because they are useless. If you think all these options are not great, understand that that is what happens when unelected judges decide that they are in charge of the country and get to write its laws.

@SsteinStuart @DavidAFrench Who cares though? Those illegal residents are just working jobs and committing crime at remarkably low rates. Just make them legal and create a legal way for others to come in so there's less administrative burden.

@DavidAFrench 1/2 5 and 6 in your Tweet are indeed bizarre. You know what else is bizarre? That you wouldn't find it bizarre that folks would look to extreme solutions after one party did nothing to prevent (and, in some cases, encouraged) the illegal entry of 10-15M into the US.

@GeeksGolfers @rSanti97 @politicalmath As I linked, you want to cut these life saving, very effective programs so you can cut taxes. You have the option to reach over and press a button to save a life, but you wont press it on some sort of warped principle.

One of the reasons that I don't accept the "nuking USAID killed millions of people" framing is because most of the people saying this never took the stance that the US was a tremendously good and heroic force for saving millions of people
