I once suspected an autoinflammatory syndrome in a patient during MD. It was not taken seriously by anybody. They ultimately diagnosed some atypical RA which I was not even 10% on board with. I have no problems with being wrong. I will always accept my mistakes. But even rare possibilities should be entertained especially when the clinical presentation is unusual. What is the point of learning about rare diagnoses if we will only ever think of the same old differentials? The biggest error in medicine are the words Uncommon presentations of common diseases are commoner than common presentations of uncommon diseases. This is a patently false statement. The rare-common dichotomy is false. Some apparently rare diseases have incidence as high as 1 in 3000 (for NF1). Please keep an open mind and use AI or whatever resource you can find. Diagnosis is the most important part of medicine. You cannot treat what you have not correctly diagnosed. #MedTwitter #NeuroTwitter #RareDiseases
