@Planet_PE The new spec has been a disaster since it’s launch, the OCR training has been poor, so many questions have been left unanswered, the exemplar work has caused real confusion, the moderation is inconsistent and the course allows for no creativity from the students or the teachers.

Really interested if the area any CNAT sport studies teachers that are enjoying the course with year 11? Seen on various groups that moderation is a real issue. The examplars are updated but I feel makes it more stressful.

Looking to relaunch our school ski trip for 2025, any recommendations for European ski resorts for schools. Most students will be beginners so not fussed about huge ski areas! Also, any companies you would recommend? @Planet_PE @PEScholar @peclassroom

@Prisca1964 @whartonswords @louisetickle In my experience of being involved in both European and USA ski trips, in the USA, the ski tuition is better, health and safety is better, the food is better for kids, flying instead of 24 hour coach is better, no chance of getting alcohol, New York stopover is a great experience

Another school trip letter arrives - this time to Iceland. For £1280. Do schools have any concept of the cost of living crisis that has engulfed the country?

@WannaTeachPE We double up in the event of bad weather, exams on in sports hall and if a teacher is off sick/at a fixture. Sometimes it won’t happen for weeks, currently it’s happening regularly due to frozen field/icy playground. Not ideal, but all active and learning!

A hugely important research report published today - 3x50mins of physical activity a week reduces depression in young people by one third. I ask again… please can we base policy on evidence thetimes.co.uk/article/school…

@WannaTeachPE Try to avoid as much as poss. But we often have to double up if…….PE teacher off school eg sick/CPD/running a fixture or event, weather is really bad, loss of facilities to exams or if member of the team just needs a break/bit of extra time for whatever reason.

@jrpehero We haven’t paid a referee for about 12 years. Unfortunately we have to referee our own games, too much hassle for us getting an external ref in. We referee each other’s in the dept (2 members of staff) this means double the extra curricular workload though!

Do any of you have problems with paying officials for school football? School insisting on invoices, most (probably all) refs are, understandably, looking for cash in hand… Any solutions out there?!

@Planet_PE We were trying to mark an assignment tonight (Sport Science). Felt like we were guessing what was needed to get what particular mark….a totally unfair position to be in for teachers, has this new spec been rushed through? It’s a disgrace and needs simplifying

@MrsNQC_PE We have started allowing students to exchange boots for a bigger size of similar condition, this means they technically only have to buy 1 pair for 5 years of school. Working well so far!

@Down_with_PE @Lee_Sullivan85 Unfortunately we don’t have such a position in the UK, PE and sport is all lumped together usually with very little staff who cover a bit of everything.

@Lee_Sullivan85 Whenever I speak to parents at beginning of year regarding #PhysEd , I make it explicitly clear that questions regarding after school activities/sports are to be directed to Athletic Director at an alternative time.

@crulePE @Jadiied @becky_bridges @OCR_PhysEd I honestly don’t understand how this specification has been approved, it’s so unnessarily confusing and complicated in what it’s asking for from the students. Hopefully we will muddle our way through it!
