These awards highlight the dedication and expertise of our team, who provide patient-centered, life-enhancing kidney care across southeastern Ontario. Our MCKC program currently supports more than 400 patients, with services offered in Kingston, Belleville, Perth Smiths Falls, Deseronto, and Brockville. This team includes nurses, nephrologists, social workers, patient care assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technologists, dietitians, an independent dialysis coordinator, body access coordinator, receptionists and unit clerks — all working together to improve the quality of life for our patients. "We listened to patients struggling to attend clinics in Kingston because of financial or transportation issues and opened up clinics in areas across the region, saving patients countless trips to Kingston to receive specialized kidney care,” says Lori Van Manen Director of the Regional Renal Program. “This approach has removed barriers to patients receiving timely access to care. ✨This Canadian Intensive Care Week, we celebrate the hearts and minds of the highly skilled professionals who specialize in caring for people with severe or life-threatening illnesses and injuries.✨ Not only is the care distinct from what is delivered on other #myKHSC hospital units, but three of the five units at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) providing intensive care are unique in southeastern Ontario, offering the highest level of care to the most critically ill patients throughout the region. On any given day at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), there are around 100 patients – from newborns to elders – receiving intensive care. Today, like every day, our intensive-care teams will be doing everything they can to help people feel a little bit more comfortable emotionally and physically, make important decisions that help them recover another day, and, yes, sometimes help people pass on with as much dignity as possible.💖 #ThankYou 🙏 for all you do! #CICW2024

@CancerCanuck Shannon, I am so very sorry. Jason was truly an inspiration for many. His optimism, insights and sense of humour will be so missed. He made a difference for cancer patients in Kingston and far beyond.

Hi everyone. It’s Shannon-Jason’s spouse aka Mrs. Canuck. I wanted to share the news of his passing here as it was such a major part of his journey. Jason passed away Friday, April 5th peacefully with his Dad and I by his side. Jason was an amazing human and I feel so grateful to have had him as my partner for 8 years. He has impacted so many people which is evident with all of these mentions and messages. He gave us all a masterclass in grit, compassion, empathy, grace and humour right to the end. He will be missed and never forgotten by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. FUCK CANCER Love, Shannon

One of the things we often get wrong in health & care improvement is prioritising performance improvement (process-technical aspects) over the emotional experience of participants. We need to make consideration of emotional factors one of our highest priorities in change initiatives. This includes: 1) how we make connections with values, through emotions, to engage people in change & 2) appreciating emotions & related cognitions & behaviours surrounding events during change.
