@MikeBrewerEcon I used to work for a financial services org that offered parents term-time only processing roles (we'd get student temps in to cover those roles during the longer school hols), so perhaps that?

Hive mind! Can you help me with this Q on pay frequencies? In a dataset I have of people who are paid monthly, there are a lot of people who seem to receive the same monthly pay in 10 or 11 months a year, but no pay in 1 or 2 months. What sort of employment would produce that?

By our best estimates, Birmingham in 1938 had just about the strongest economy in Europe. Tied with Berlin and Paris, only behind London. In 1950, Berlin was in ruins and divided, so Birmingham was behind only Paris and London -- capitals of Europe's winners and their empires.

“While there are indicators that the average household is coming to terms with the higher costs they face, the reality for those at the bottom end of the income distribution is that things are getting worse, not better." - @SharonBCollard

Over the past couple of years we've seen a significant deterioration in people's financial well-being. Two years ago 27% were in serious financial difficulties or struggling. Now 41% - a growth of 50%. New polling of 6,000 h/holds @finan_fairness @PFRC_uk financialfairness.org.uk/en/media-centr…

1.3m people in England living in hidden hardship, and potentially missing out on help because their poverty is masked by better off neighbours. Ethnic minorities most likely to be caught in small areas of intense deprivation not shown by existing measures (used to target funding)

6% of all households were behind with electricity and 5% with gas/other energy bills in Oct. Bur rates were *double* for disabled households (13% electricity; 11% gas/other). Disabled households were also more likely to be using a PPM (28% compared with 18% of all households).
Personal Finance Research Centre@PFRC_uk

The latest @finan_fairness tracker shows an increase in households facing real hardship; 9% of all h/holds used a foodbank in the past 6 months (up from 6% in Oct 22), rising to 20% among those receiving disability-related benefits (up from 12% in Oct 22): pfrc.blogs.bristol.ac.uk/2023/12/06/the…

The @PFRC_uk account has been released from Twitter/X jail following a week of confusion about PFRC potentially being underage, despite us celebrating our 25th anniversary this year, and the people administering the account (i.e. me) being considerably older than that.

Yesterday PFRC and @StepChange published research from @SharonBCollard and @PFRC_Jamie presenting new evidence about debt advice referrals, which aims to stimulate discussion about how to ensure referrals work well for debt advice clients across a complex ecosystem.
